All nine of the Golden Hurricane’s runs come with two outs

NORMAN, Okla. – Mizzou Softball (28-28) opened its weekend at the 2018 NCAA Norman Regional with a 9-1 loss Friday to Tulsa. The Tigers' pitching staff surrendered all nine runs with two outs, capped off by a grand slam in the fourth inning.

Mizzou's offense only mustered one run on four hits, but possessed ample opportunities to push further runs across the plate. The Tigers stranded at least one runner in each of their final three at bats, including two runners left on in the third and fourth frame.

On Friday's NCAA Regional loss…
"Today was obviously disappointing. Credit to Tulsa's offense as it repeatedly delivered clutch two-out hits. Efficient two-out pitching has been an Achilles heel for us all season long and we need to obviously get better at that. We still have a chance to get hot and come out of this weekend. It begins tomorrow and we need to come to the ballpark focused and ready to go."

Mizzou dropped its first-ever game to Tulsa in the all-time series. The Tigers still possess a 5-1 all-time advantage over the Golden Hurricane.
Mizzou's all-time NCAA Regional record dropped to 43-25. After going 0-2 in their 2017 NCAA Regional a season ago, the Tigers are seeking their first Regional triumph since 2016.
With a leadoff single in the second inning, Kessinger extended her team-leading hitting streak to six games. She's also safely reached base in a team-best eight consecutive contests.
Wilmes' RBI ground out in the third inning drove in the Tigers' lone run Friday. Her 26 RBI on the season ranks third-most on Mizzou.
Abby George tallied a pinch hit base hit to open the seventh inning. She's now a perfect 3-for-3 in pinch hitting appearances this year.

Up Next

Following today's loss, Mizzou will need to reel off four-straight victories to advance out of the Norman Regional. Up first is an elimination game Saturday evening against the loser of Oklahoma and Boston University's Friday evening matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.

With a victory, the Tigers would then face another elimination game immediately following their first matchup Saturday. A potential game two tomorrow is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT.
