
Three Tigers Earn NCAA Championships Berths During Day One at Zones

MINNEAPOLIS - Three members of the Mizzou men's and women's diving teams punched tickets to the 2018 NCAA Championships thanks to their performances at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships Monday in Minneapolis, Minn. Seniors Kendra Kieser (Plano, Texas) and Madeline McKernan (Montgomery, Texas) earned spots on women's 1-meter, while junior Kyle Goodwin (Aurora, Colo.) qualified on men's 3-meter.
Both Goodwin and McKernan nabbed the third NCAA Championships appearances of their Tiger careers and Kieser claimed her first NCAA berth.
KEY TIGERS
On 3-meter, Goodwin took fifth overall with a combined score of 785.25 to earn his Championships ticket. He concluded finals with a 78.0 on his last dive to end the finals session with 404.85 points, less than three points off the career-best he set at last month's SEC Championships. Goodwin claimed All-America honorable mentions accolades on platform as a freshman in 2016.
McKernan finished seventh on 1-meter to nab her third NCAA Championships berth. She finished with a combined score of 581.90 points, after tallies of 298.65 in finals and 283.25 in prelims. McKernan, a 2016 All-America first team selection on platform,
Kieser clinched the final NCAA Championships berth 1-meter with an 11th-place finish on the event. She finished strong on her three dives, including a 63.55 on an inward 2 1/2 somersault tuck, to move up and nab 11th. Overall, Kieser totaled 564.75 points, with 297 points in the final and 267.75 in prelims. The Championships berth was the first of Kieser's career, who missed an invite by one placement in 2017.
