Tiger freshman hurler tosses second complete game shutout this year
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mizzou Softball (19-16, 2-6 SEC) evened its Southeastern Conference series at Arkansas with a 3-0 shutout victory Saturday afternoon at Bogle Park. Lauren Rice was phenomenal in the circle for the Tigers, as she tossed her second complete game win this season on only 78 pitches. The Morrison, Illinois, native's drop ball was extremely effective, leading to 15 ground ball outs.
Offensively, eight of Mizzou's nine starters recorded a hit. The Tigers produced consistent pressure on the Razorbacks' starting pitcher and ultimately led to a single run each in the second, third and fourth inning.

Hear From Coach Fogue
On Saturday's shutout win against Arkansas…
"I'm really proud of how our team as a whole responded today after a disappointing series opener. Lauren (Rice) was simply fantastic in the circle. She attacked the zone all day and kept Arkansas' hitters uncomfortable at the plate. Our pitching has been very solid in both games so far this weekend and that's great to see. We hit the ball hard and made consistent contact which I think led to many of our runs. Tomorrow is an opportunity to keep this momentum going and pick up a big series win."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Saturday marked Rice's second complete game victory this season, as she also went the distance in a Mizzou run-rule victory against Creighton (March 4).
- Rice's 7.0 IP against the Razorbacks also established a new career-high, while she surrendered zero earned runs for the third time this season.
- Collectively, the Tigers earned their sixth shutout victory of the season and its first in SEC play. The last time Mizzou produced an SEC shutout triumph was a year ago against the same Arkansas squad (April 7, 2017).
- Pierce's pair of hits Saturday secured her 12th multi-hit game this year. She now ties Amanda Sanchez for the most individual multi-hit games this season.
- Regan Nash was a thorn in the Razorbacks' side on the basepaths today, tallying a stolen base in the second and fourth inning. The two stolen bases matched her season high, while producing the feat for the sixth time in her career.
