COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Mizzou women's and diving team finished 15th with 86 points at the 2018 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships as the four-day meet wrapped up Saturday at the McCorkle Aquatic Center on the campus on The Ohio State University.
Over the course of the meet, Mizzou had three individuals earn individual All-America first team honors, two more claim honorable mention accolades and earned honorable mention honors in three relays. Additionally, the Tigers combined to set four school records over the four days, including three alone from senior Sharli Brady (Burlington, Ky.).
SATURDAY'S KEY SWIMS
Brady her overall individual All-America honor with a 13th-place finish in the 200 fly for honorable mention accolades. Amazingly, Brady matched her previous three placements in the event, as she took 13th her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons as well. She went 1:54.57 in the consolation final after a 1:53.88 in prelims, a time that broke her own school record in the event.
Brady also reset her own 200 IM (1:54.89) and 400 IM (4:04.12) program marks earlier in the meet.
The Tigers closed the meet with a bang, placing 12th in the 400 free relay after crushing the school record. After first breaking the program mark in prelims with a 3:15.23, the quartet of junior Annie Ochitwa (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Brady, freshman Sarah Thompson (Collierville, Tenn) and senior Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ky.) dropped nearly two seconds for a finals swim of 3:13.66.
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Head Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh
On Mizzou's overall performance at the Championships…
"We were a little hot and cold. This morning was cold but we did what we needed to do to position ourselves finish in the top 15, then tonight we took care of it. It really came down to the last relay, we could have been anywhere from 15th to 18th and they rallied and set our school record (in the 400 free relay) by almost two seconds."
On the senior class…
"If you look at the scoreboard, they were our leaders. They're going to be really hard to replace but what incredible careers they had. They really left a mark on Mizzou swimming and diving, they set a new standard. It's hard to see them go."
