COLUMBIA, MO. - Mizzou Women's Basketball (23-6, 11-5) opens postpeason play at the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn. The 5-day tournament takes place at Bridgestone Arena. No. 6-seed Mizzou begins action Thursday against No. 14-seed Ole Miss. Tip is slated for 8:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
No. 14 Mizzou Launches Postseason Play at SEC Tournament
- Mizzou is searching for its first ever SEC Tournament win, having gone 0-5 in the past five seasons.
- The last time the Tigers won a conference tournament game was March 7, 2012 over Oklahoma State in the opening round of the Big 12 tournament.
- Mizzou set a new attendance record with 11,092 fans attending Mizzou's game vs. Tennessee. That victory over No. 11 Tennessee gave Mizzou two wins over Top-11 opponents in the same season for the first time since 1993-94 when the Tigers beat No. 6 Kansas and No. 3 Colorado.
- The Tigers have won 16 of their last 22 regular season SEC. games. Mizzou owns a winning streak against eight of 13 SEC opponents.
- Mizzou has had a higher field goal percentage than its opponent in 26 of its 29 games this season.
- The Tigers have already clinched 23 wins, cementing three consecutive seasons with at least 22 wins for the first time since 1982-85. The win Thursday over Vanderbilt gave Mizzou 23 wins by Feb. 22. That is the quickest Mizzou has reached 23 wins in a season since the Tigers did so on Feb. 18 during the 1976-77 campaign. Mizzou has 23 wins for the first time since 1983-84. That's already the sixth-most victories by a Mizzou team in a single season in program history.
- Mizzou secured 11 wins conference play in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1984 and 1985.
- Mizzou allows the fifth-fewest rebounds per game in the nation, as opponents grab just 30.3 per game. Coach Pingeton's squad ranks 15th in the nation in rebound margin.
- The Tigers rank third in the SEC in free throw percentage during league play, shooting 78.5 percent. Mizzou set a single-season program record last season, shooting 80.2 percent at the line.
- Mizzou has spent all 18 weeks of the season in the Top 25 in the AP poll. Since the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign, Mizzou has spent 30 weeks in the Top 25. Mizzou's No. 9 Coaches' Poll ranking on Feb. 20 was the highest in program history in the Coaches' Poll specifically.
- Junior Sophie Cunningham is the only player in the nation shooting at least 83 percent from the free throw line, 47 percent from 3-point range AND 56 percent from the field, arguably putting together the most efficient season by any player in the nation.
- All-SEC performer Jordan Frericks has scored in double figures 12 times in the past 13 games and tallied at least 12 points in seven consecutive games, averaging 15.9 points per contest during the Tigers' last seven contests.
- Frericks is coming off an incredible 16-point, 12-rebound and nine-assist performance on Senior Night vs. Vanderbilt, finishing an assist shy of Mizzou's first triple-double since 2011.
- Frericks is just the third Tiger in program history to surpass 1,000 career rebounds and recently moved into third on Mizzou's all-time career rebounds list, passing Evan Unrau (945).
- Frericks now has 1,414 career points, which currently ranks sixth among active SEC players. Her 1,010 career rebounds rank third. She is one of only three players in the league have more than 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. On Thursday, Frericks became just the third Tiger to be a member of the 1,000-point club and the 1,000-rebound club alongside Renee Kelly and Kesha Bonds.
- Mizzou ranks fifth in the nation and first in the SEC in rebounding defense, holding opponents to just 30.3 rebounds per game. Mizzou held Vanderbilt to just 19 rebounds, the Commodores' fewest amount in league play this season.
- The Tigers have outrebounded their opponent 25 times in 29 games this season. They have grabbed 40+ rebounds as a team 13 times in the past 20 games. Mizzou ranks 15th in the nation in rebounding margin (+8.9) and ranks second in the SEC.
- Mizzou has secured 23 victories in a campaign for the first time since 1983-84. Mizzou has won 23 games in a season just six times in program history now (28 - 1976-77, 26 - 1977-78, 25 - 1983-84, 25 - 1982-83, 24 - 1981-82).
