KEY TIGERS
Stevens led throughout much of the race but was out-touched at the finish to record her second-consecutive second-place finish in the event. The senior went a season-best 50.91 in the final, just behind Kentucky's Asia Seidt.
Led by Stevens', the women's team picked up huge points in the 100 back, as five total Tigers scored in the event, including sophomore Haley Hynes (Lee's Summit, Mo.), who breezed to a win in the consolation final.
Senior Sharli Brady (Burlington, Ky.) earned her first-ever podium finish and broke her own school record as she took third in the 200 fly. Brady, who was only 0.02 off her program mark of 1:54.56 in prelims, blew away her record with a finals swim of 1:54.01 and a bronze finish. Her previous best SEC finish was fifth, which she accomplished Friday in the 400 IM and last season in the 200 fly.
Three other Tigers also earned spots on their respective championship finals for top eight finishes. Junior Jordan O'Brien (Naperville, Ill.) took seventh in the men's 10 breast in 53.14, sophomore Daniel Hein (Sycamore, Ill.) placed seventh in the men's 100 back in 46.82, and sophomore Micah Slaton (Austin, Texas) finished eighth in the men's 200 fly after a time of 1:43.82.
Mizzou closed the night with finishes of fourth and sixth in the men's and women's medley relays. The men's quartet of Hein, O'Brien, Slaton and junior Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba) took fourth in 3:07.25, while the women's team of Hynes, freshman Lauren Savoy (Highland Village, Texas), junior Annie Ochitwa (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Stevens were sixth in 3:32.90.
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Head Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh
"We actually weren't too good this morning but we came back tonight and swam really well. We tend to compete pretty well at night, we just have to get it done in the morning. But we ended with two really good relays and figured some stuff out. We could have swam the women's medley about four or five different ways and I think we picked the right way tonight. We put a new breaststroker on there and (Lauren Savoy) went really fast, so that was a lot of fun."
