COLLEGE STATION, Texas. – Junior Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba) earned a bronze finish in the men's 200 free to highlight four top five finishes and two school records for the men's and women's swimming and diving teams during day three action at the 2018 Southeastern Conference Championships in College Station, Texas. KEY TIGERS
Schreuders earned a podium finish and tied his own 200 free school record as he placed third in the event with a 1:33.24. The time matched his own program mark the junior set in November. The finish also bettered his SEC Championships 200 free placements of fourth in 2017 and fifth in 2016.
Swimming in her first SEC Championships, junior Annie Ochitwa (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) nabbed fourth in the women's 100 fly. She tallied a season-best time of 51.86, dropping almost four-tenths off her prelims swim of 52.23.
Seniors Sharli Brady (Burlington, Ky.) and Erin Metzger-Seymour (Westminster, Colo.) both finished fifth in their respective events. Brady notched a 4:07.47 in the women's 400 IM final to better her previous finishes in the race of eighth the past three seasons. Metzger-Seymour dropped a 1:45.34 to take fifth in the women's 200 free, an event she did not swim at the Championships in her first three seasons.
Additionally, freshman Carter Grimes (Las Vega, Nev.) broke Mizzou's men's 400 IM record after he won the consolation final in a time of 3:43.02. The swim easily lowered the old mark of 3:44.08 and was over two and a half seconds better than his old personal-best.
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Head Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh
"We had a lot of best times today and a lot of swimming within themselves and doing it the way they trained to do it. We had some really good outcomes that way. It's always fun to see people do what they can do, that's the best part. That last (time trial) relay was a testament to how fast we can swim when there are no distractions. We have to get used to blocking out the distractions."
