Storylines
- Mizzou takes on Oral Roberts on Friday for the ninth time in program history and the fifth time since 2008. The Tigers are 5-0 vs. Oral Roberts in Columbia, Mo., and lead the all-time series 7-1, with the lone loss coming in 2009 in Tulsa. Mizzou is 22-1 all-time vs. Summit League opponents.
- In their last outing, the Tigers held UT Arlington to just 45 points, the fewest by a Mizzou opponent since Alabama A&M scored 44 on Nov. 13, 2016. Mizzou hasn't held back-to-back opponents under 50 since Nov. 25 and Nov. 30, 1991.
- Against UT Arlington, Mizzou forced 21 turnovers, its most since forcing 21 against Arkansas Pine-Bluff in 2015. It was the most turnovers forced in the Cuonzo Martin era.
- Mizzou is attacking the glass this season. It has outrebounded its opponent seven times in eight games to begin the season. The Tigers have done that 29 times in 41 games during the Martin era. Mizzou is limiting opponents to 31.1 rebounds per game, which ranks third in the SEC and 42nd in the nation.
- Mizzou leads the SEC in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting 37.9 from beyond the arc. From 2012-17, Mizzou shot 32.4 percent from 3-point range. In the Martin era, Mizzou is shooting 38.2 percent from deep. Mizzou has made 41 triples over the last four games. The Tigers are shooting 46.6 percent from beyond the arc in that span.
- When Mizzou has committed fewer turnovers than its opponent this season, Mizzou is 5-0. Senior point guard Jordan Geist has committed one turnover in the last 81 minutes of gameclock heading into Friday's game. The senior point guard has just 17 turnovers in a team-high 248 minutes.
- Sophomore Jeremiah Tilmon has been impressively efficient during Mizzou's homestand, shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 87.5 percent from the free throw line over the last three games.
TILLY
- Sophomore standout forward Jeremiah Tilmon has scored in double figures 18 times in his career. Mizzou is 16-2 in those games. Tilmon secured his second double-double in the last three games with 10 points and 12 rebounds vs. UT Arlington. He had another strong performance vs. UCF, pouring in 10 points against 7-foot-6 center Tacko Fall, including the game-winning bucket in overtime. Mizzou was +17 with Tilmon on the floor vs. UCF.
- Tilmon has been dominant at home this season, reaching double figures in all four games thus far. In those four contests, he's averaging 13.0 points per game and shooting 56.2 percent from the floor.
- Tilmon is shooting 81 percent from the free throw line this season, which leads the team and ranks sixth in the SEC.
- Tilmon is averaging 16.4 points per 40 minutes.
FRESHMEN TRIO SETTLING IN
- Mizzou's 2018-19 roster features 19 players, the SEC's largest roster.
- Freshman Javon Pickett has started every game this season. His career-high 13 points proved key vs. UCF. He added 10 points vs. UT Arlington, reaching double digits in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. The young guard has grabbed at least four boards in a game four times this season.
- Freshman Torrence Watson broke out with a career-high 12 points to lead all scorers in Mizzou's win over UT Arlington. He drained three triples.
- Freshman point guard Xavier Pinson tossed in seven points vs. UTA. He scored a season-best 12 points against No. 12 Kansas State.
- The freshmen trio combined for 29 of Mizzou's 65 points vs. UTA, a season-high in a game for them.
IRON MAN
- Senior Kevin Puryear has appeared in 32 more career games than anyone else on Mizzou's roster, earning 97 career starts. Puryear recently surpassed 100 career game appearances.
- Only 11 Tigers in program history have eclipsed 1,000 points and 100 starts. Puryear is three starts away from becoming the first Tiger to reach the century mark since Kim English in 2012.
- In the last two seasons, Mizzou is 5-0 when Puryear is the leading scorer.
- Puryear is up to 37th on Mizzou's all-time scoring list with 1,088 career points and counting. He recently moved past DeMarre Caroll and is 24 points shy of matching Mizzou legend Norm Stewart.
GEIST LEADING THE WAY
- Senior guard Jordan Geist, who had surpassed 20 points in a game just once in his career (28 vs. Green Bay on Dec. 9, 2017), scored 20+ in back-to-back games in the Virgin Islands, including 21 points vs. Oregon State and 24 vs. No. 12 Kansas State. He earned Paradise Jam All-Tournament team honors for his efforts.
- Geist is the only Mizzou player with more than 20 points in a game this season. In those two 20+-point outings, Geist committed just four total turnovers in 62 total minutes.
- Most recently, Geist came up clutch vs. UCF, making a career-high five triples, including a buzzer-beating trey to send the game to OT. With 18 points, Geist scored in double digits for the fourth consecutive game for the first time in his career. His 74 points over that four-game stretch are more than any SEC point guard in a four-game stretch this season.
- Geist is living at the free throw line, making 14 more free throws as any other Tiger this season. He made a career-high 12 free throws vs. Oregon State.He ranks 10th in the SEC in free throw percentage (77.1 percent).
- Geist has 102 points through eight games. He had just 47 points through Mizzou's first nine games last season.
- He has been outstanding in second halves recently, totaling 68 points in the final 20 minutes alone over the last six games.
OF NOTE
- Mizzou continues to be a stout defensive team under Coach Martin. The Tigers rank fifth in the SEC in scoring defense, limiting opponents to 64.2 points per game. When Mizzou holds teams under 65 points, it is 5-0. The Tigers have held back-to-back opponents to its lowest scoring output of its season (UCF - 64 points, UT Arlington - 45 points).
- Mizzou is third in the SEC in defensive rebound percentage (.748).
- Redshirt sophomore Mitchell Smith put together the best outing of his career vs. UCF, posting a career-high nine points and seven rebounds. Smith is 4-of-6 from beyond the arc over the last three games. He hadn't hit a triple in his entire career before last Tuesday's victory over Temple.
- Coach Martin recently announced sophomore K.J. Santos has been cleared to play after sitting out the entire season thus far with a foot injury. Santos' last game action came March 22, 2017 as a freshman at Illinois-Chicago.
