Dossey earns unique honor for second year in a row
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Soccer senior goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.) was named to the 2018 Southeastern Conference Soccer Community Service Team, the league office announced on Oct. 23.
Dossey has recorded more than 54 hours of community service since she arrived in Columbia. The senior has spent extensive time volunteering for the Food Recovery Network, a student movement against food waste and hunger that recovers and donates meals across the country. She has also served numerous hours with the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri in the past year. Dossey has also spent time serving at Caleb's Pitch to create art with young cancer patients. Additionally, Dossey has volunteered for National Special Olympics Day, Mizzou Moves, Girls on the Run, College Mentors for Kids, CMN Kids' Street Fair and at the Paxton-Keely Elementary School carnival.
Additionally, this past summer, Dossey traveled to Haiti with 10 Mizzou student-athletes to distribute shoes in various communities through Soles4Souls. Dossey spent six days on the island, helping fit underprivileged kids for shoes. The student athletes, including Dossey, helped to measure the children's feet, wash them if there was water at the site, and then put the shoes on their feet.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.
Joining Dossey on the 2018 team are Emma Welch (Alabama), Taylor Beitz (Arkansas), Ashton Brock (Auburn), Danielle Van Liere (Florida), Mollie Belisle (Georgia), Payton Atkins (Kentucky), Lucy Parker (LSU), Marisa Kutchma (Ole Miss), Rhylee DeCrane (Mississippi State), Jackie Schaefer (South Carolina), Meghan Flynn (Tennessee), Brittany Crabtree (Texas A&M) and Nia Dorsey (Vanderbilt).
