Findley recorded fourth top-20 finish of the season at National Open
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Cross Country freshman Tori Findley (Blue Springs, Mo.) was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday. Findley was Mizzou's top finisher at the National Open on Saturday (Oct. 13), finishing 20th overall.
Findley is the second Tiger to be named the Freshman of the Week this season, following freshman Mikayla Reed (Washington, Mo.) who earned the honor on Sept. 4 after finishing sixth at the Brooks Twilight Classic (Sept. 1). Redshirt junior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) and freshman Reilly Revord (Hinsdale, Ill.) each garnered SEC Runner of the Week honors on Sept. 18 for their performances at the Illinois State Invitational (Sept. 14).
Findley paced the Mizzou women at the National Open in State College, Pa., as she crossed the finish line at 21:01 in the 6k race. Findley has finished in the top-20 in each of her four races this season, finishing eighth (5k – 18:14.26) at the Brooks Twilight Classic (Sept. 1), third at the Illinois State Invitational (5k – 18:05.3) and 13th at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational (5k – 17:21.75).
In high school at Blue Springs South High School, Findley was a four-time state champion, winning state titles in cross country (2017), the 3200m run (2017, 2018) and the 1600m run (2018). Findley helped lead her team to four district championships from 2014-18, a third-place state finish in 2014 and a fourth-place state finish in 2018.
Mizzou will next race on Friday, Oct. 26 at the SEC Cross Country Championships in Auburn, Ala.
