COLUMBIA, MO. - No. 11 Mizzou Women's Basketball (15-2) continues its road trip as the Tigers travel to Oxford, Mississippi, on Thursday to face Ole Miss. Mizzou is looking for its first 16-2 start through 18 games in program history. Tip off vs. the Rebels is set for 8 p.m. on SEC Network.
Mizzou Heads to Ole Miss Looking for Fifth Consecutive Road Win
- Mizzou's 3-1 mark in SEC action is already its best to start to league play since the Tigers joined the conference in 2012.
- The Tigers have won eight of their last nine regular season SEC games.
- Mizzou boasts a 4-0 record in true road games this season with wins over No. 21 California, Vanderbilt, Alabama and Missouri State.
- In those games, Mizzou is shooting an efficient 46.1 percent from the field, including 41.5 from beyond the arc.
- Sophie Cunningham and Amber Smith are average 13.8 points and 13.5 points per game in true road games, respectively, while sophomore Jordan Chavis is chipping in 10.8 points per game off the bench.
- A win Thursday over Ole Miss would give Mizzou its second 5-0 start in true road games in the last three seasons. The Tigers won five staight road games in 2015-16 (at Missouri State, Wichita State, Saint Mary's, Colorado, Georgia).
- The Tigers have now won six straight true road games in regular season play dating back to last season. A win Thursday would be Mizzou's first seven-game road winning streak since Feb. 22, 2015 to Jan. 7, 2016.
- Mizzou is shooting a 37.5 percent from beyond the arc this season (128-of-341). As of now that's on pace to set a new program record, edging the 1989-90 and 2013-14 teams who shot 37.3 percent from deep.
- Mizzou currently ranks third in the SEC in 3-point field goal percentage. The Tigers have stepped up from deep in conference play, shooting 45.2 percent over their first four league games, which leads the SEC during conference action.
- In four conference games, Pingeton's squad is averaging 8.3 three-pointers per game.
- Junior guard Sophie Cunningham leads the league in 3-point field goal percentage among those with at least 50 attempts, shooting 47.1 percent from beyond the arc. That ranks seventh in the nation.
- Cunningham is flanked by sophomores Amber Smith and Jordan Chavis and redshirt junior Lauren Aldridge on the perimeter. Smith, Chavis and Aldridge are a combined 24-of-47 from 3-point range in conference play thus far (51.1 percent). Chavis' 2.8 three-pointers per game in league play ranks third in the SEC.
- Mizzou is shooting 75.3 percent at the free throw line as a team this season after shooting a program-record 80.2 percent at the charity stripe last season. The Tigers rank second in the league free throw percentage, trailing only Texas A&M (75.8).
- Mizzou has five players with 20+ attempts shooting above 70 percent from the line, led by Cunningham who tops the SEC (86.1).
- Mizzou leads the nation in rebounding defense, holding opponents to just 29.5 rebounds per game.
- The Tigers have outrebounded their opponent 15 times in 17 games this season. They have grabbed 40+ rebounds as a team seven times in the past nine games.
- Sophie Cunningham leads the SEC in free throw pct. (.861) and 3-point field goal pct. shooting 47.1 percent (7th in the nation) while ranking sixth in the league in field goal percentage (57.8). She is the only guard in the top six in the league in field goal percentage.
- Cunningham is on pace to shatter Mizzou's single-season 3-point field goal percentage record, which is held by her sister Lindsey. Sophie has scored 287 points this season on just 61 shots.
- Mizzou's 15-2 start matches its best start through 17 games in program history. The Tigers also won 15 of their first 17 games in 2015-16 and 1982-83. With one more win at Ole Miss, Mizzou would claim its first 16-2 start in program history. Amber Smith has moved from a stretch-4 to a wing position and has settled in, scoring a team-high 18.3 points per game in league play, which ranks 8th in the SEC. She's also grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game and shooting 53.8% in league action.
- Smith has 178 points this season after scoring 195 a year ago.
- She poured in a career-high 27 points vs. LSU. Smith followed with a 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds vs. South Carolina, securing her second career double-double.
- After reaching double figures five times a season ago, Smith has already done so eight times in 2017-18. Mizzou is 12-1 when Smith has reached double figures in her career.
Mizzou vs. Ole Miss
- Mizzou and Ole Miss square off for the eighth time in their program histories. Mizzou has won the last six meetings, with five of those victories coming during the Robin Pingeton era.
- Mizzou won the last meeting 100-65 and has outscored Ole Miss by 63 combined points over the last three meetings.
- Mizzou is 3-0 in Oxford since joining the league as an official member.
