Junior LB Will Serve as One of Three SEC Student-Athlete Representatives
COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri junior LB Brandon Lee has been selected as one of three Southeastern Conference student-athletes to represent the league at this week's NCAA Convention. Lee, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., will attend the conference in his hometown this week to represent the SEC on proposed governance rule changes under the NCAA's Division I autonomy process.
The sessions Lee will attend run Thursday-Friday, Jan. 18-19, and he will be joined by Ole Miss baseball team member Brady Bramlett and Kentucky women's basketball team member Alyssa Rice. The three student-athletes will represent the SEC as part of the Autonomy Conferences' (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12, SEC) efforts to engage and empower student-athletes by giving them both a voice and vote within a transparent decision-making process.
"Conference student-athlete representation is a central part of the autonomy process of the NCAA governance structure and we are pleased that Brady, Brandon and Alyssa will join us in Indianapolis next week as representatives of the SEC," said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. "SEC student-athletes have been active in expressing their views on issues important to their intercollegiate athletics experience. At the NCAA Convention, these three students have the opportunity to have their voices heard in a national forum."
Lee just completed his junior season for the Tigers, and posted career highs in tackles (42) and tackles for loss (5) in 2017 as he helped guide Mizzou to a seven-win season and its first bowl game since 2014. Lee, who started nine times at weakside linebacker, made one of the biggest plays of the season for the MU defense when he returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown in Mizzou's win at Vanderbilt that made the Tigers bowl eligible.
A personal finance planning major, Lee is active in community service, volunteering at National Student-Athlete Day with the Special Olympics of Mid-Missouri, the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri, Safe Kids Day and Big Brothers/Big Sisters Football Camp, while also paying visits to veterans at the VA Hospital and patients and the MU Women's and Children's Hospital. Lee, who represented Mizzou at the 2017 Black Student-Athlete Summit, is also a member of Mizzou's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), as well as Athletics' Tiger Leadership Institute.
