COLUMBIA, Mo. – Following a top-10 finish in her collegiate debut, Mizzou Cross Country freshman Mikayla Reed (Washington, Mo.) was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Runner of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Reed recorded a sixth-place finish at the Brooks Twilight Classic Saturday, finishing the 5K race at 18:13.89.
Reed was the second-highest placing freshman at the meet, and the second-highest finisher from the SEC, following only teammate junior Melissa Menghini (Fenton, Mo.) who finished second. Reed was one of five Mizzou runners to finish in the top-10 at the meet, as the Tigers took first place in the meet with 31 points, 52 points ahead of second-place Arkansas State who scored 83 points.
Reed joined Mizzou this fall after a heralded career at Washington High School where she was a six-time Missouri state champion, including a cross country state title in 2016. She also won three state titles at the 2018 Missouri State Track & Field Championships, taking home titles in the 800m, 1600m and 3200m.
