Incoming Tiger Danny Kovac Named to U.S. Junior Pan Pac Team

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou swimming incoming freshman Danny Kovac (Fort Collins, Colorado) was named to the 2018 United States Junior Pan Pacifics Championships roster, USA Swimming announced. Rosters were determined based on results from the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships. The 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships are scheduled for Aug. 23-27 at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Suva, Fiji.

Rosters were determined based on results from the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships. The 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships are scheduled for Aug. 23-27 at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Suva, Fiji.

At last week's National Championships in Irvine, California, Kovac claimed the 18-and-Under 100 fly national title. He placed 14th overall in the men's 100 fly at the meet but first among competitors 18 and under to claim his national crown. The incoming freshman went 52.71 in finals, just off the personal-best time of 52.70 he clocked in preliminaries. Kovac also placed 27th in the 50 fly and 28th in the 200 IM at the meet. 

Kovac won the 200 IM and 100 fly at the 2018 Colorado High School 5A State Championships in May. He took home the 200 IM title in a state record time of 1:46.27, and swam a 46.54 in the 100 fly. He also won the 2016 100 back titles.
