BUDAPEST, Hungary - Mizzou swimming and diving's six-member contingent wrapped up competition at the 2017 FINA World Championships on Wednesday in Budapest, Hungary. The Tigers posted two top 10 individual finishes and helped earn a relay gold medal for the United States.
Diver Lauren Reedy and swimmers Michael Chadwick and Hannah Stevens represented the United States, while swimmers Jordy Groters and Mikel Schreuders represented Aruba and Azra Avdic competed for Peru.
Chadwick earned a gold medal as part of the United States' men's 4x100m free relay team, as he swam on the relay in preliminary action. The U.S. quartet of Caeleb Dressel, Townley Haas, Blake Pieroni and Nathan Adrian then notched a 3:10.06 in finals to take home the gold.
Competing in the 50m back, Stevens qualified for the semifinals and narrowly missed a spot in the event final. After a 27.89 in prelims, Stevens tied her personal best with a 27.63 in the semifinals to finish ninth overall. The top eight swimmers advanced to finals. The rising senior earned a spot on the U.S. World Championships Team after claiming the 50m back national title earlier this month.
In the diving well, Reedy and diving partner Briadam Herrera tied for 10th on mixed 3-meter synchro. The pair totaled 270.06 points, including at least 60 points on their final three dives, to tie Viktoriya Kesar and Stanislav Oliferchyk of the Ukraine.
Groters and Schreuders both competed in two events at the meet. Schreuders placed 39th in the 200m free with a time of 1:49.66 and took 50th in the 100m free after touching in 50.12. Groters went 28.40 in the 50m breast for 42nd and 1:02.95 to place 46th in the 100m breast. Additionally, Avdic took 30th in the 200m fly after a time of 2:15.09.
