COLUMBIA, Mo. – Redshirt senior Lauren Reedy (Rochester Hills, Michigan) and sophomore Kyle Goodwin (Aurora, Colorado) of the Mizzou men's and women's diving programs earned bids to the 2017 NCAA Championships Monday with their performances during day one of the 2017 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
Reedy claimed her third career NCAA bid after placing third in the women's 3-meter competition. She also qualified as a sophomore in 2014 and a junior in 2015, when she claimed honorable mention All-America honors on 3-meter. Goodwin, a 2016 honorable mention All-American on platform, earned his second NCAA berth in as many tries with a fifth-place finish on 1-meter. The top seven women's 3-meter finishers and top eight men's finishers on 3-meter earned NCAA Championships bids.
"I was really pleased with Kyle Goodwin, he really did a great job," Mizzou Head Diving Coach Jamie Sweeney said. "Not only were his dives amazing caliber dives but he put two lists together and put the hurt on everybody. That was really cool to see.
"I was really happy for Lauren tonight that she took third-place," Sweeney added. "Today she just showed up, put in consistent dives, got her work done and qualified for NCAAs."
In women's 3-meter, Reedy notched a two-round total of 719.4 points, with 363.3 in finals and 356.1 in prelims for her third-place finish. The redshirt senior opened finals with a 64.5 points and closed the round with 65.1 points, her highest scoring dive of the day.
Goodwin punched his second career NCAA Championships berth with a fifth-place finish on 1-meter. He totaled 742.8 points on the day after a career-best 378.7 points in finals and 364.1 in prelims. Goodwin was seventh after prelims but moved up two spots with his finals tally, which included a 72.0 on his fifth dive.
Also advancing to women's 3-meter finals was junior Kendra Kieser (Plano, Texas), who took 13th with earned 602.15 points on the day. The junior scored 313.05 points in finals after a prelims round of 289.1.
