COLUMBIA, Mo. - No. 15 Missouri gymnastics team travels to Gainesville, Florida, to compete in the 2017 NCAA Gainesville Regional on Saturday, April 1 at 4 p.m. ET (3 p.m. CT). The Tigers will compete against No. 3 Florida, No. 10 Georgia, No. 30 New Hampshire, No. 33 Penn State and No. 35 North Carolina. The meet will be streamed live on SEC Network +.
TIGER TIDBITS
- The NCAA bid marks Mizzou's third-consecutive Regional appearance and 27th trip overall in program history
- The Tigers ended the regular season ranked 15th with an RQS of 196.540
- Sophomore Britney Ward claimed two Regular Season All-America honors from the NACGC/W after earning second team honors on both vault and beam. This marks her second year in a row as a second team member on beam
- The Tigers placed seventh at the 2017 Southeastern Conference Championship with a score of 195.825
- Ward and junior Becca Schugel earned All-SEC honors for their performances at the SEC Championship, with Ward earning honors on vault and Schugel on floor
- Missouri picked up its third SEC dual meet win of the year on March 10 with a come-from-behind 197.150-196.925 win over No. 12 Kentucky
- The Tigers' 197.150 against the Wildcats marked the fourth-highest score in school history and the second meet in a row the team hit the 197 mark
- Mizzou erupted for a 49.500 on beam in the meet against Kentucky to break the program record on the event, besting the old mark of 49.325. Ward led the way for the Tigers on beam with a career-high 9.975, which tied the third-best individual score on the event in Mizzou history
- On March 3, Mizzou tallied the third-highest score in program history in a 197.200-195.350 win over No. 18 Auburn
- The 197.200 trails only the team record of 197.475 set at the Texas Women's Invite on March 12, 2004 and the 197.350 from the Cat Classic on Feb. 6, 2004
- Missouri went 49.375 on floor and 49.350 on bars to record scores of at least 49.325 on three events for only the second time in school history, joining the 2004 team which went 49.550 on floor, 49.400 on bars and 49.375 on vault at the Texas Women's Invite on March 12
- On Feb. 24, the Tigers scored a 196.750, which stands as the second-best road tally in school history
- The Tigers scored a 49.175 or higher on all four events against the Gators to accomplish that feat for only the second time in program history. The squad also did in on Feb. 6, 2004 at the Cat Classic against BYU, Kentucky and Penn State
- Mizzou broke the program vault record against Lindenwood and Southeast Missouri with a team total of 49.425, besting the old high of 49.375 set in 2004
- Head Coach Shannon Welker is in his fourth season at the helm of the Tiger program. In his first three years, Welker has Mizzou back in the national spotlight. In 2016, the Tigers posted their highest NCAA Regional finish (third) since 2010 and finished the season ranked 19th nationally, ahead of Southeastern Conference foes Arkansas and Kentucky.
WARD EARNS TWO REGULAR SEASON ALL-AMERICA HONORS
- Sophomore Britney Ward claimed two regular season All-America honors from the NACGC/W last week
- She earned second team honors on both vault and floor based on her RQS following the regular season
- Ward narrowly missed first team accolades on both as she ended the regular season tied for ninth on vault and tied for 10th on beam
- Over the season, she totaled 13 scores of 9.9 or better on the two events, including seven on vault and six on beam.
- The top eight gymnastics on each each event and in the all-around received first team honors, while the next eight earned spots on the second team
- Ward is a repeat selection on beam as she claimed All-America second team honors on the event as a freshman
MISSOURI ENDS REGULAR SEASON RANKED 15TH
- Missouri came in at 15th in the final regular season RoadToNational's national rankings, released on March 20, with an regional qualifying score (RQS) of 196.540
- The Tigers stayed in the top 15 in all in-season rankings, as they checked in at sixth (Jan. 9), eighth (Jan. 16), 11th (Jan. 23 and Jan. 30), 13th (Feb. 6 and Feb. 20), 14th (March 10) and 15th (Feb. 13, Feb. 27, March 6 and March 20)
WARD, SCHUGEL EARN ALL-SEC HONORS
- Sophomore Britney Ward and junior Becca Schugel both claimed All-SEC honors thanks to their performances at the recent 2017 SEC Gymnastics Championship.
- Ward earned the honors on vault after scoring a 9.875 on the event at the Championship, while Schugel was a floor selection after a 9.850
- Both Tigers also claimed All-SEC honors in 2016, Ward on vault and Schugel on beam.
TIGERS GO 197 IN CONSECUTIVE WEEKS
- Mizzou's 197.150-196.925 win over No. 12 Kentucky on March 10 marked the second week in a row the team broke the 197 mark after a 197.200 against No. 18 Auburn on March 3
- Prior to the two meets, Missouri last scored a 197 on March 12, 2004, 15 years ago
- The 2004 team put up four scores over 197, making the Tigers' 197.200 and 197.150 only the fifth and sixth times in school history to squad scored a 197
MIZZOU BREAKS BEAM RECORD
- Mizzou erupted for a 49.500 on beam against Kentucky on March 10 to break the team's record on the event
- The 49.500 smashed the old mark of 49.325, which was set four times, including one week prior on March 3
- The Tigers used three scores of 9.900 or higher to break the record, as Ward (9.975), Kelly (9.925) and Schugel (9.9) all set personal-highs on the event
- In addition to those three scores, the Tigers also used 9.850s from sophomore Allison Bower and freshman Aspen Tucker to tally the 49.500
MISSOURI CLAIMS THREE SEC WINS IN 2017
- The Tigers posted a 3-4 SEC record in 2017, triple the number of SEC dual wins the team had entering the season
- Missouri entered the SEC for the 2013 season and went winless in league competition in 2013, 2014 and 2015
- A 195.800-195.350 win over No. 9 Georgia on Jan. 22, 2016 marked the team's first-ever conference victory
- This season, Mizzou picked up wins over Kentucky (197.150-196.925), Auburn (197.200-195.350) and Arkansas (195.850-193.950)
- The victory over Arkansas also marked Missouri's first-ever SEC road dual win
TUCKER NAMED SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
- Freshman Aspen Tucker was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced on March 7
- The honor was the first first for a Tiger since Morgan Porter claimed the award on March 8, 2016
- Against Auburn on March 3, Tucker earned her third all-around win of the season with a career-best 39.450, a total that ties for the third-highest freshman all-around total in school history
- She also tied for first on vault with a 9.900 to claim the first individual event win of her young career. Additionally, she tallied a career-best 9.900 on floor and tied her personal-high with a 9.850 on bars against the visiting Tigers.
MIZZOU NOTCHES THIRD-HIGHEST SCORE IN PROGRAM HISTORY
- The Tigers scored a season-best 197.200 in its win over Auburn on March to record the third-highest score in program history.
- The 197.200 trails only the team record of 197.475 set at the Texas Women's Invite on March 12, 2004 and the 197.350 from the Cat Classic on Feb. 6, 2004
- Missouri's score also marked only the sixth fifth time in school history the team reached the 197 mark
- In addition to its team score, the Tigers tied the program record on beam with a 49.325
- Mizzou scored at least 49.325 on three events against Auburn to accomplish the feat for only the second time ever, joining that meet at Texas Women's in 2004
MISSOURI GOES 49.325 ON THREE EVENTS FOR ONLY THE SECOND TIME
- Missouri did something against Auburn it had only done one other time in its history: score at least 49.325 points on three events in a single meet
- The Tigers went 49.375 on floor, 49.350 on bars and 49.325 on beam on March 3
- The only other time the program reached those scores was on March 12, 2004, when the team scored 49.550 on floor, 49.400 on bars and 49.375 on vault at the Texas Women's Invite
WARD CONTINUES TO SHINE
- Sophomore Britney Ward continues her strong season as Mizzou's most consistent Tiger
- She leads the Tigers with 12 event wins on the year, with six apiece on vault and beam
- Ward owns 13 of Missouri's 34 9.9 scores so far this season
- Thirteen of her 31 routines on the year have earned at least a 9.9, while 24 have gone 9.8 or better
TIGERS VAULTING UP A STORM
- The Tigers rank 11th nationally on vault with an RQS of 49.205 and own an average score of 49.135
- So far this year, Missouri has scored at least a 49.050 in nine of 12 meets
- Mizzou started the trend with a 49.225 at Arkansas on Jan. 13, set a program-record 49.425 in the State of Missouri
- Sophomore Britney Ward leads the Tigers and is tied for 10th nationally with an RQS of 9.925
- Ward has four scores of 9.925 or better so far this season, as she went 9.950 against Alabama and posted 9.925s at Arkansas and LSU and against George Washington, Iowa State and Lindenwood
MISSOURI GOES 49.175 ON ALL EVENTS FOR SECOND-TIME EVER
- The Tigers earned scores of 49.225 on vault and 49.175 on bars, beam and floor at Florida on Feb. 24 for their season-best total of 196.750
- The meet marked only the second time in program history Mizzou scored at least a 49.175 on every event, joining the 2004 Cat Classic on Feb. 6, 2004 when the Tigers earned event scores of 49.300 on vault, 49.250 on bars, 49.225 on beam and 49.575 on floor
- Additionally, the meet at Florida also marked the first time the Tigers notched at least a 49 on all four events since April 10, 2010 at the NCAA Columbia Regional
