
No. 14 @MizzouGym Takes Seventh at SEC Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 14 Missouri gymnastics team scored a 195.825 to place seventh at the 2017 Southeastern Conference Championship Saturday at the Jacksonville Veteran's Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
LSU won the team title with 198.075, while Florida finishes second iat 197.825 and Alabama was third at 197.400. Georgia took fourth with 196.700, followed by Kentucky in fifth (196.650), Auburn in sixth (196.550) and Arkansas in eighth (194.900).
"We started off a little slow but we got it back on track," Mizzou Head Coach Shannon Welker said. "We did well on the last three events. We have to stick some more dismounts and get a little better preparation going into Regionals. But I thought we had a solid regular season and we're looking forward to going into postseason."
Junior Becca Schugel (Eagan, Minnesota) and sophomore Britney Ward (Ozark, Missouri) claimed spots on the All-SEC Team with their performances at the meet. Schugel earned a spot on floor and Ward on vault as top two finishers on the events in the afternoon session of the Championship.
The Tigers opened the meet on bars and posted a 48.750 to begin their Championship. Schugel led the way as she recorded the top Tiger score of the event with a 9.850. Sophomore Allison Bower (Mesa, Arizona) earned a 9.750 and junior Shauna Miller (Knoxville, Tennessee) and sophomore Madeleine Huber (St. Louis, Missouri) tallied identical scores of 9.725.
A 49.100 on beam in the second rotation marked Mizzou's highest event total of the meet as four Tigers earned a 9.800 or higher. Ward's 9.875 in the anchor position was a team-best 9.875 and earned her All-SEC Team accolades on the apparatus. Schugel and sophomore Brooke Kelly (Birmingham, Alabama) hit their sets for scores of 9.825, sophomore Tia Allbritten (Garland, Texas) went 9.800 and freshman Aspen Tucker (Lehigh Acres, Florida) and Bower tallied 9.775s.
In the third rotation, Mizzou recorded a team score of 48.900 on the floor exercise. An outstanding routine from Schugel earned her a Mizzou-high 9.850 and a spot on the All-SEC Team. Junior Kennedi Harris (Atlanta, Georgia) earned a 9.825 in the anchor spot and Bower and Huber each went 9.750.
Missouri concluded the meet with a 49.075 on vault in the final rotation. Ward notched a team-high 9.875, while Tucker went 9.850 and Huber and Miller both scored a 9.800. Additionally, Harris and senior Angie Kern (Columbia, Missouri) scored 9.750s.
Up for the Tigers are NCAA Regionals, which will be announced on Monday, March 20 at 3 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
