BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 11 Missouri gymnastics team suffered a 197.425-195.425 loss to No. 2 LSU on Friday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Sophomore Britney Ward (Ozark, Missouri) claimed scores of 9.925 on vault and 9.900 on beam, as well as a career-high 9.825 on bars, to highlight Mizzou's performance.
Missouri opened the meet on bars, where four gymnasts notched scores of at least 9.800 as the team went 48.350 on the apparatus. Sophomore Madeleine Huber (St. Louis, Missouri) led the way with a 9.850, followed by Ward's career-best 9.825 and a career-high-tying 9.825 from freshman Aspen Tucker (Lehigh Acres, Florida). Junior Becca Schugel (Eagan, Minnesota) added a strong routine to post a 9.800.
The Tigers reached the 49.000 mark on vault for the fourth-consecutive meet as the Tigers rebounded with a 49.125 in the second rotation. Ward's 9.925 was a team-high and was her third score of 9.925 or better in five chances this season. Also strong on the event was Tucker, who notched a 9.850, senior Angie Kern (Columbia, Missouri), who claimed a 9.825, and junior Kennedi Harris (Atlanta, Georgia), who went 9.800.
Harris anchored the floor lineup with a 9.900, her fourth-straight 9.900 or better score on the exercise. Harris' tally highlighted Missouri's 48.975 on the event, where three additional Tigers earned 9.800s or higher, as Schugel earned a 9.825 and Kern and sophomore Allison Bower (Mesa, Arizona) went 9.800.
Mizzou closed the meet with a 48.975 on beam, as Ward concluded her strong night with a 9.900. The sophomore's total marked the third score of at least 9.9 on the season and her second-consecutive. In addition to Ward's 9.900, junior Tia Allbritten (Garland, Texas) earned a 9.825 and Bower and Tucker both claimed 9.775s.
The Tigers return home to the Hearnes Center on Friday, Feb. 10 when the team hosts No. 16 Georgia Washington, Iowa State and Lindenwood at 7 p.m.
