COLUMBUS, Ohio - Junior Drew Dvorchak (Naperville, Illinois) won three events and sophomore Samantha Wilts (El Paso, Texas) claimed two to lead the No. 14/13 men's and women's swimming teams at the two-day Ohio State Winter Invitational, Feb. 11-12, at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
Dvorchak led a top three Tiger sweep in the men's 100 back. Dvorchak earned his second win of the meet after a swim of 48.44, followed closely behind by sophomore Griffin Schaetzle (Erie, Pennsylvania) in second in 48.47 and junior Grant Kelton (Collierville, Tennessee), who tied for third in 48.61. Dvorchak and Schaetzle's times were career bests.
Dvorchak then swept the fly races, first with a win in the 100 fly after a finals swim of 47.79, a new personal best. In finals, he knocked almost a full second off his morning prelims time of 48.77. He claimed his third win of the Invite in the 200 fly as he dropped more than two second off his best with a finals time of 1:46.56. Dvorchak's 200 fly moved him into sixth-place on Mizzou's all-time list in the event.
Wilts swept the 100 and 200 back events at the meet. She earned top honors in the women's 100 back in 54.26, almost a second faster than her old personal best sent at the Tiger Invite two weeks ago. She then clocked a 1:56.78, also a PR, in the 200 back to move into 10th-place in the Mizzou record book in the event.
Schaetzle and Kelton helped Missouri to a one-two finish in the men's 200 back to secure all four back events for the Tigers. Schaetzle won in 1:44.36, off his personal best prelims time of 1:43.82, while Kelton clocked a 1:46.95 for second.
The Tiger women also went one-two-three in the 200 free on Sunday. Senior Brittany Hammond (Delray Beach, Florida) claimed the win in 1:49.50, while sophomore Aurore Jacolin (Toulouse, France) took second in 1:49.73 and freshman Lindsay Painton (Aurora, Colorado) finished third in 1:51.11.
In the men's 100 breast, freshman Caleb Hicks (Colorado Springs, Colorado) touched second in a career best 53.72. Earlier in the day, he swam a 53.59 in prelims, which puts him 10th all-time at Mizzou in the event.
The Tigers open action at the 2017 Southeastern Conference Championships on Tuesday, Feb. 14 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The meet runs through Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Jones Aquatic Center.
