Mizzou Men's Basketball (2-0) makes its first-ever trip to Utah (2-0) on Thursday, Nov. 16, for a matchup tipping off at 7 p.m. CT from the Jon M. Huntsman Center, and to be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks. Live radio coverage can be found on the Tiger Radio Network.
Story Lines
- The Cuonzo Martin Era has started with plenty of points and an emphasis on defense. The Tigers have averaged 86.5 points per game, while allowing 57.0 points per game.
- Tall! Mizzou has five Tigers who stand 6-10 or taller on its roster for just the second time in program history. Legendary head coach Norm Stewart's 1995-96 squad also had five at 6-10 or taller.
- The Tigers are 1-0 all-time against Larry Krystkowiak-coached teams. Krystkowiak's 2004-05 Montana squad visited Columbia on Dec. 11, 2004, and was handed an 87-62 loss.
- Mizzou's 2017-18 campaign began with a win, as Mizzou handled old conference foe Iowa State, 74-59, powered by 17 points and eight boards off the bench by Kevin Puryear, both team bests.
- The effort was the ninth time in Puryear's career, and third time in his last four games, that he has led Mizzou in both points and rebounds.
- Mizzou Arena is sold out for the 2017-18 season, with the public season ticket sales total of 9,572 setting a school record. Last year's public season ticket total was 5,802.
- Martin's squad features last season's top three scorers (Jordan Barnett, 12.2; Kevin Puryear, 11.8; Terrence Phillips, 10.4).
Mizzou vs. Utah
- The series history between Mizzou and Utah is short, having played just twice and not since 1978.
- Neither matchup in the series has occurred on campus, with Thursday's game serving as the first. Both previous meetings came during the NCAA Tournament.
- The Utes got the better of the Tigers, 45-35, on March 24, 1944, in Kansas City, and again on March 12, 1978, by a score of 86-79 (2OT) in Wichita, Kansas. Utah went on to win the 1944 NCAA title.
