Junior signal caller is now fourth in school history in TD grabs
Mizzou QB Drew Lock rewrote the record book Saturday night against Kentucky when he threw his third and final touchdown pass of the night, a 75-yard bullet to Johnathon Johnson, giving him 40 for his collegiate career and tying him with Mizzou legend Blaine Gabbert for fourth all-time in program history.
Though Mizzou lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Wildcats, the junior signal caller for the Tigers gashed the stout Kentucky defense for 355 yards through the air, launching three touchdown passes of more than 50 yards to three different Mizzou receivers. Lock averaged 16.1 yards per completion and finished the game with a passer rating of 147. He completed passes to six different Tiger receivers, including four passes for more than 40 yards.
Lock was the driving force behind a dynamic Mizzou offensive attack that racked up 568 total yards, picked up 24 first downs and put up 34 points on a strong Kentucky defense, the most they've allowed this season. Lock alone was responsible for four touchdowns, adding a one-yard rushing score late in the third quarter to go along with touchdown passes to J'Mon Moore, Johnathon Johnson and Emanuel Hall.
Lock hit Moore for a 50-yard score with 7:13 to go in the second quarter that opened the offensive floodgates for the Tigers. He capped of an impressive second quarter with a 58-yard gem to Hall who cut the lead to six with just under a minute to go in the opening half. The Mizzou QB picked up right where he left off in the third quarter, orchestrating two scoring drives in the final 5:30 of the period, scoring a touchdown on the ground and knotting the game up at 27 heading into the final 15:00 minutes of play in Lexington. Lock hit Johnathon Johnson in stride with 13:46 left in the game for a 75-yard connection that tied the game for the final time before the Wildcats went on to score the final six points of the night. Lock gave the Tigers a chance at the end as he marched the Tigers down field with less than two minutes to play, but the clock hit zero before the Tigers could reach the end zone a final time as they fell to Kentucky by a final score of 40-34.
Mizzou will be back in action next week, again hitting the road to an SEC East foe as No. 5 Georgia looms.
