COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou soccer team earned the United Soccer Coaches announced 2016-17 Team Academic Award, the organization announced on Thursday. The Tigers were one of 531 women's college teams to be recognized with the academic honor.

Mizzou earned the award for the ninth time overall, including each of the last six years. 

Schools are required to achieve a team GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in order to be considered for the award.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 8 when the team hosts No. 21 Tennessee at 1 p.m. at Walton Stadium.
