
Nick Joos Joins Mizzou Athletics Staff

CoSIDA Hall of Fame member to oversee communications and public relations
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri Department of Athletics has selected communications professional Nick Joos to serve as the department's Senior Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native and 1987 Iowa State graduate comes to Mizzou from Baylor University, where he has worked since 2003. Joos is a former president for the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), holding that chair during the 2008-09 academic year and spearheading the organization's hybrid relationship with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), while serving nine years overall on the CoSIDA Board of Directors. He was a 2014 CoSIDA Hall of Fame inductee and received the organization's 2015 Arch Ward Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in athletic communications.
Joos, who is in his 30th year working in intercollegiate athletics, will oversee Mizzou's communications staff, and handle departmental public relations initiatives and issues, in addition to being the point person for all athletics-related sunshine requests.
In addition to overseeing Baylor's athletic communications efforts and serving as the department's primary spokesperson in his role as Executive Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs, since 2007 Joos has had oversight of the department's external units of marketing, spirit & tradition, ticket sales and operations, BaylorVision and licensing. He also served as the sport administrator for the Bears' highly-successful men's basketball, men's tennis and women's tennis programs, and was the administrative liaison to the department's multi-media partner, IMG College.
Joos worked as Baylor's Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations/Broadcast Properties from 2003 until the fall of 2007, when he became Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs. He also was Baylor's primary football media relations contact until his promotion, helping lead promotional campaigns for two-time Ray Guy Award winner Daniel Sepulveda.
He joined the Baylor staff after a brief tenure at the University of Minnesota, where he was the Director of Athletic Media Relations.
Joos spent three years (2000-2003) directing the media relations office at the University of Massachusetts. He served two years as Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations before being named Associate Athletic Director his final year. At UMass, Joos oversaw all public relations activities and information services for the 23-sport athletic program while serving as lead publicist for the men's basketball program.
Before moving to New England, Joos worked 13 years at the University of Nebraska. He spent one year as an intern (1987-88) in the Husker sports information office, then served as assistant sports information director (1988-94) and associate director (1994-95) for the Cornhuskers. Joos was the media relations contact for men's basketball and men's and women's track & field programs. He was the secondary football contact during his final two years in the office, and worked with the Huskers' 1994 national championship team.
All-told, he assisted with eight Husker football teams which earned bowl bids and 10 basketball teams which received postseason invitations. Joos' final five years at Nebraska were spent as director of men's basketball operations.
During his Nebraska career, he also spent 11 years as the executive producer of the Danny Nee Television Show and handled color commentary on Husker men's basketball radio broadcasts for seven seasons. Joos was also a press officer at the 1991 Pan American Games and the 1989 and 1990 U.S. Olympic Festivals and was worked numerous NCAA Championship events.
A member of the NCAA Honors Committee and the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee, Nick and his wife, Jill, are the parents of two children, Christopher and Jenna.
