- Mizzou Football (2-2 overall, 0-1 in SEC play) heads out for its second road contest of the season, and what a big one it is, as it makes the program's first-ever appearance in Death Valley, where it takes on the LSU Tigers (2-2, 1-1). Saturday's game will also close the book on Mizzou's tour around the SEC, as LSU is the last team the Tigers haven't faced since joining the conference in 2012. Kickoff for the game – which is LSU's Homecoming contest for 2016 – is set for 6:30 p.m. central time, and will be televised on the SEC Network.
- Mizzou is coming off the most dominant win in school history, as Barry Odom's troops easily disposed of Delaware State last Saturday in Columbia by a 79-0 score, setting program records for most points in a half (58) and overall. The Tigers scored on 12-of-15 possessions Saturday, with only one punt, and two of those possessions ending each half. Sophomore QB Drew Lock continued his stellar play, as he threw for 402 yards and 5 touchdowns (no interceptions) on 26-of-36 passing, while going to the bench for good at the 2:16 mark of the 2nd quarter. Mizzou saw three different receivers reach the 100-yard mark in the game, including junior J'Mon Moore (8-114), who tied an MU record with 4 touchdown grabs. Other receivers with 100-yard days included true freshman Dimetrios Mason (8-120) and sophomore Emanuel Hall (7-122, 1 TD). True freshman TB Damarea Crockett saw the most extensive action of his young career and responded with 115 yards rushing and 2 TDs on just 12 carries (9.6 avg.). Mizzou's defense allowed just 140 yards of total offense to Delaware State, forcing 10 punts and pilfering four turnovers (2 interceptions/2 fumbles). DSU ran just three plays in Mizzou territory in the game.
- LSU is looking to bounce back from a heart-breaking 18-13 defeat at rival Auburn last Saturday, in a game where LSU appeared to score the game-winning TD on the final play of regulation, only to have it wiped out after review showed the play didn't get off in time before the clock expired.
WEEK 5 STORYLINES
- Mizzou is making its first-ever trip to Death Valley for a 6:30 p.m. kick against LSU on SEC Network. Since joining the SEC, Mizzou is 4-6 against SEC West foes and 2-2 in road games against the West.
- Saturday's game pits the SEC's No. 1 offense in Mizzou (569.5 yards per game) against the SEC's No. 3 defense (341.2 yards per game). LSU is coming off of an 18-13 loss at Auburn in which it held Gus Malzahn's offense without a touchdown in the loss. On the flip side, Mizzou is coming off of an 11-touchdown performance in a 79-0 win over Delaware State last weekend. The 79 points are a new school record, topping the previous best of 69.
- Despite the storied histories of both programs, Mizzou and LSU have just one prior meeting - the 1978 Liberty Bowl. Led by future NFL tight end and Pro Football Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow and QB Phil Bradley, Mizzou opened a 20-3 lead before fending off LSU, which cut the lead to 20-15 after touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.
- A big storyline for this week of course is that Mizzou will be playing under the lights at Tiger Stadium. Since 1960, LSU has an incredible 201-59-3 record in night games at Tiger Stadium and just a 20-22-3 record in day games in that span. Mizzou is 6-3 in road night games since joining the SEC for the 2012 season.
