Rising sophomore Mikel Schreuders will represent Aruba at the 2016 Olympic Games
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou swimmer Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba) punched his ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympics, as announced by the Federation International De Natation (FINA). A rising sophomore for the Tigers, Schreuders is one of two swimmers who will represent Aruba at the Olympics. He joins former Mizzou swimmers Dominique Bouchard (2010-13) and Mack Darragh(2012-15), both of Canada, as 2016 Olympians, the first three in the history of the program.
Schreuders will swim the 200m free in Rio. He originally earned his Olympic qualifying standard at the XXXIII Invitational International Delfines de Naco in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in November but was not assured of his spot on the team until July.
Prelims of the men's 200m preliminaries will take place on Sunday, Aug. 7.
Schreuders earned two honorable mention All-America honors as part of Mizzou relays during his freshman season in 2015-16, where he helped the Tigers to finishes of 11th in the 400 free relay and 14th in the 800 free relay at the 2016 NCAA Championships. Schreuders also earned an individual bid to the Championships and placed 27th overall in the 200 free.
