Tigers look to salvage the series finale Sunday afternoon
COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 14 Mizzou Softball (26-9, 5-6 SEC) dropped game two of the three-game weekend series on Saturday. No. 10 Georgia brought the bats to University Field for the second consecutive day, en route to a 10-0 run rule victory over the Tigers.
The visiting Bulldogs struck quickly with three runs in the first inning. Following a single run in the second inning, Georgia used a pair of solo home runs in the third inning to build a 6-0 advantage over Mizzou.
Three pitchers entered the circle for the Tigers on Saturday, as each struggled against the potent Georgia offense. The Bulldogs' fourth and final home run of the game in the fourth inning capped a lackluster day for Mizzou.
Redshirt senior Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) and freshman Regan Nash (Camden Point, Mo.) tallied the Tigers' lone hits against Bulldogs pitching. Fagan's knock in the third inning extended her hitting streak to three games.
KEY MOMENT
Following a disappointing end to Friday's series opener, Mizzou sought a strong start to Saturday evening's contest. The Tigers retired the leadoff hitter on a strikeout, but Georgia later utilized two walks and a two-run home run to put the first runs on the scoreboard.
