Former Tiger Dominique Bouchard qualified for a spot on Canada's Olympic Team in the 100m Back
TORONTO – Former Mizzou swimmer Dominique Bouchard qualified for a spot on the Canadian Olympic Team Wednesday (April 6) during competition at the 2016 Canadian Olympic Trials at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in Toronto. Bouchard, who met one of seven selection criteria for the team with a second-place finish and a FINA-A qualifying time in the 100m back, now awaits official approval by the Canadian Olympic Committee.
The North Bay, Ontario, native finished earned her Rio qualifying spot in the 100m back after she placed second in a season-best time of 59.96, well under the FINA-A qualifying time of 1:00.25. She will also swim the 200m back on Sunday for a qualifying spot in that event.
Bouchard currently ranks sixth in the world and first among Canadians this year in the 200m back with a time of 2:08.90 from last month's Arena Pro Swim Series Orlando. In a breakthrough season in 2015, Bouchard qualified for the FINA World Championships, where she placed sixth in the 200m back and was a part of Canada's sixth-place 4x100m medley relay team. She also won the silver medal in the 200m back at the 2015 Pan American Games.
Bouchard was an eight-time All-American at Mizzou from 2010-13. In her time in black and gold, Bouchard earned runner-up honors in the 200 back at the 2011 and 2013 NCAA Championships and placed third in the event in 2012, as well as placing seventh in the 100 back in 2013.
