Freshman Amanda Kim tied for third, one shot back of the lead (-2)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mizzou Women's Golf sits in third place after shooting a collective 7-over par 295 on Friday at the Legacy Course at Greystone Golf & Country Club. Freshman Amanda Kim (O'Fallon, Mo.) is tied for third individually after shooting a 2-under 70. Fellow freshmen Marit Harryvan (Winschoten, Netherlands) and Emma Allen (Southampton, England) shot 74 (+2) and 75 (+3), respectively.
"We put ourselves in a really good position on day one," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "It will be important for us to stay in the present and really assess our approach shots over the next two days. The team that can minimize mistakes and play steady par golf will be tough to beat.
"What a fantastic start for our freshmen that qualified for this event," Priesmeyer noted. "They had a great start and played very steady today."
Senior Michelle Butler (Dunedin, Fla.) shot a 4-over 76 while junior Jessica Meek (Carnoustie, Scotland) shot 82 (+10).
Alabama leads the championship after shooting a 2-under 286 in the opening round. Florida is in second place after shooting 292 (+4).
Ainhoa Olarra of South Carolina and Maria Torres from Florida are tied for the individual lead at 3-under par following respective rounds of 69.
The second round of the tournament begins Saturday at 8 a.m. CT.
