BANDON, Ore. - Mizzou Men's Golf recorded its fourth Top 5 team finish of the 2015-16 season with its fourth-place showing (290-292-300 – 882) at The Bandon Dunes Championship from Sunday, March 6-Tuesday, March 8. The Tigers (+30) were paced by the standout play of junior Linus Lilliedahl (Sandviken, Sweden), who shot a 2-over-par tournament (71-73-71 – 215) to tie for fifth, individually.
Head coach Mark Leroux's squad was also boosted by sophomore Hayden Buckley (Belden, Miss.), who posted his fourth Top 20 overall finish of the season in Bandon, shooting 69-74-78 (+8, 221) to tie for 17th, individually.
Also inside the Top 25 for final individual placing were freshman Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.) and junior Euan Walker (Troon, Scotland), who both shot +11 to tie for 25th. Echelmeier shot 76-72-76, while Walker shot 76-73-75 to get to identical 224 scores.
The Bandon Dunes Championship, hosted by Gonzaga on the Bandon Trails Course at Bandon Dunes Resort, was won by ninth-ranked Clemson (290-274-290), who finished +2 with 854 strokes.
Rounding out Mizzou's lineup was redshirt senior Wilson Sundvold (Columbia, Mo.), who carded rounds of 74-79-81 (+21, 234) to tie for 56th as an individual. Sundvold landed one of five eagles recorded throughout the entire tournament during his run at the Bandon Dunes event.
Buckley's opening round (Sunday, March 6) of 69 was Mizzou's only round under-par in the event, while Lilliedahl posted two at-par 71s in his opening and closing rounds.
Lilliedahl carded 40 holes at-par, the most of the tournament, during his first Top 5 finish of his 2015-16 campaign. It also marked his second Top 20 overall finish of his junior season, as well as the second time this season pacing the Tigers' group (T15 overall, 1st for Mizzou at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate from Oct. 19-20).
Leroux's group next heads to Eatonton, Georgia, for the Linger Longer Invitational from Sunday, March 20-Tuesday, March 22. The tournament is hosted by Mercer and Kennesaw State at Reynolds Lake Oconee.
