MIZZOU PITCHES A PAIR OF SHUTOUTS IN 2016 HOME OPENER
- Tigers fans had to wait until the team's 20th game of the 2016 campaign to see their favorite players compete in person. Mizzou didn't disappoint as it tallied back-to-back 6-0 shutout victories over Western Illinois on Wednesday, March 16.
- The two impressive wins marked the Tigers' fifth and sixth shutout triumphs already this year.
- Mizzou's pitching staff was brilliant as four pitchers combined for 14.0 shutout innings. Sophomore Paige Lowary and freshman Danielle Baumgartner both tallied victories with outstanding relief work.
- Lowary (9-2) finished game one with 5.0 shutout frames, allowing only two hits along the way. In game two, Baumgartner (8-1) entered in the fourth and tossed 4.0 outstanding innings. The right-hander allowed three hits while matching her season high with five strikeouts.
- Redshirt senior Sami Fagan paced the Tigers' offense, recording a team-high four hits (.667 AVG), two RBI and two stolen bases in the two games.
TIGERS RUNNING WILD THIS SEASON
- So far this season, Mizzou has swiped 71 stolen bases in 73 attempts (97.3-percent success rate). Redshirt senior Taylor Gadbois (21), Fagan (15) and freshman Regan Nash (14) lead the Tigers' attack on the base paths with double-digit stolen bases already.
- Mizzou's running attack has struck fear in opponents all season long. In fact, its 3.38 stolen bases per game currently ranks second-best in the NCAA.
- The Tigers' single-game high in stolen bases was seven at Ole Miss (March 11). Overall, Mizzou has produced at least one stolen base in 20-of-21 games, multiple stolen base nights in 16-of-21 games, swiped four-plus stolen bases in 11-of-21 games and tallied five-plus stolen bases seven times.
