Senior Michelle Butler finishes second individually at even par
ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 23 Mizzou Women's Golf finished third out of 18 teams in the UCF Challenge that concluded Tuesday at the Eagle Creek Golf Club. Senior Michelle Butler (Dunedin, Fla.) was the individual runner-up by shooting an even par 216 for the tournament.
The Tigers shot a collective 306 (+18) in the final round and finished 26-over par, five shots behind tournament champion Houston.
"It was tough out there today," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "We struggled to make birdies and just didn't connect with our short game like we did the first two days.
"It was great to be in the lead coming into the final round. We have to experience those emotions and pressure so we can build on those experiences for the future. Even though we were not our best today, we still had a very solid first event of the spring season."
Freshman Emma Allen (Southampton, England) led the Tigers on Tuesday by carding a 74 (+2), including three birdies. Butler shot a final round 75 (+3) and birdied the 18th hole to earn sole possession of second place individually. Junior Jessica Meek (Carnoustie, Scotland) notched a 77 (+5) on Tuesday while sophomore Clara Young rounded out the scoring with an 80 (+8).
The Tigers now have four top five finishes in six tournaments during the 2015-16 season. Mizzou returns to play in the Florida State Matchup at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course in Tallahassee from Friday through Sunday.
Tulane finished in second place, one shot back of Houston at 22-over par. F. Gustafsson Spang of East Carolina claimed the individual title, finishing at 3-under with a 213 total.
