Baxter shines in the circle, five total Tigers record multi-hit games
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball hosted its annual Black & Gold exhibition game on Saturday inside Devine Pavilion with Team Black claiming an 8-3 win. Senior Emily Crane (Troy, Mo.) was the offensive star for Mizzou, hitting 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, home run and 3 RBIs.
Junior Cheyenne Baxter (Norborne, Mo.) paced the Tigers' pitching staff with six strong innings in the circle. Baxter scattered six hits while allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts.
Crane jolted the big crowd inside Devine Pavilion with a lead-off home run to centerfield in the first inning. Later in the frame, sophomore Amanda Sanchez (West Covina, Calif.) drove in a runner with an RBI single.
Team Black jumped out to a 6-0 advantage before redshirt senior Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) got Team Gold on the scoreboard with an RBI single. Team Gold struggled early at the plate as Baxter piled up four strikeouts through her first three innings pitched.
Junior Natalie Fleming (Silex, Mo.) launched an opposite field home run in the fourth to extend Team Black's lead. Fleming added an RBI base hit in the sixth inning to conclude an impressive day at the plate.
Redshirt senior Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.) provided Team Gold's offensive highlight of the day, lining an RBI triple over the centerfielder's head in the fifth inning. Gadbois' hit knocked in sophomore Sara Harvey (Kansas City, Mo.) who accounted for two of Team Gold's three runs scored on the afternoon.
Freshman Regan Nash (Camden Point, Mo.) had a strong day overall for Team Black, making a pair of running plays in left field and going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.

Mizzou finally kicks off its 2016 regular season on Feb. 19 at the Citrus Classic in Kissimmee, Fla. The Tigers will play six games over three days in their season opening tournament. Mizzou is set to face Jacksonville State, Elon, UAB, College of Charleston, Stephen F. Austin and Stetson.
