Bond and Harris tally multi-hit games
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Brett Bond (St. Louis, Mo.) tallied three RBI Saturday afternoon as Team Black topped Team Gold, 5-0, taking a 2-1 lead in the Fall World Series. Bond and Trey Harris (Powder Springs, Ga.) both tabbed multi-hit games, accounting for four of Black's seven hits.
Black struck first as Alex Del Rio (Munster, Ind.) nabbed the first hit of the game in the bottom of the second with a single to right-center field. Del Rio stole second and reached third on a throwing error by Nelson Mompierre (Miami, Fla.). Johnny Balsamo (Kansas City, Mo.) stepped to the plate and knocked in Del Rio with a RBI groundout to short, giving Black the 1-0 lead.
Bryce Montes De Oca (Lawrence, Kan.) got the ball for Gold and allowed one run off one hit and fanned five batters before exiting the game after three qualify innings of work.
Gold threatened in the top of the third as Armaan Painter (Atlanta, Ga.) and Kameron Misner (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) knocked a pair of singles to put two men on with two outs. Junior Nolan Gromacki came in clutch, throwing a ground out to end the inning. Gromacki pitched 3.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and whiffing three batters.
Harris tabbed his first hit of the series in the bottom of the fifth with a single to right center field, and then scored on a double off the bat of Bond to put Black up, 2-0.
Black extended its lead in the sixth as a pair of singles and a hit batter loaded up the bases for Connor Brumfield (Columbia, Mo.), who knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to right field. A walk by Michael Plassmeyer (St. Louis, Mo.) and another single by Harris put three on for Bond, who pushed two across the plate with a single to center, giving Black a commanding 5-0 lead, which they would hold on to through the rest of the game.
