#ZOUNotes

  • Mizzou Men's Basketball (8-13, 1-7) continues Southeastern Conference action at Mizzou Arena with Ole Miss visiting on Wednesday, Feb. 3, for an 8 p.m. tipoff on the SEC Network.
  • Sophomores Jakeenan Gant and Namon Wright posted double-digit scoring outings vs. Mississippi State (Jan. 30), with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Wright nearly secured a double-double against the Bulldogs, grabbing nine rebounds with three boards in the final two minutes.
  • Freshman guard Terrence Phillips scored 10+ points for the seventh time this season vs. Mississippi State (Jan. 30).
  • Head coach Kim Anderson's squad is seeking its second SEC win of the season after the 76-61 victory over Auburn (Jan. 9).
  • Freshman forward Kevin Puryear leads the Tigers in scoring in overall games this season with his 11.0 points per game.
  • Junior guard Wes Clark leads the Tigers in scoring in conference games with his 10.3 points per game.

Last Time Out

  • Mizzou Men's Basketball (8-13, 1-7) fell to Mississippi State (9-11, 2-6), 76-62, on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers cut the Bulldogs' lead to 10 points twice during the second half, thanks to a 15-3 run, but were unable to erase a 17-point first half deficit.
  • Sophomore guard Namon Wright led the Tigers with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting (50 percent) and 3-of-3 shooting from the free throw line. Wright also led the team in rebounds, grabbing a career-high nine boards.
  • Sophomore forward Jakeenan Gant followed Wright up with 11. Gant's 11 points matched a season-high, the third time this season he has reached 11.
  • As a team, Mizzou shot 77.8 percent from the free throw line (14-of-18), the 11th time in 21 games the Tigers have shot better than 70 percent from the line. Three Tigers were perfect from the charity stripe in the game, including senior forward Ryan Rosburg (4-of-4), sophomore guard Namon Wright (3-of-3), and freshman guard K.J. Walton (3-of-3).

Wright Went to Boarding School

  • No Tiger has improved on the glass like sophomore guard Namon Wright, who narrowly missed his first career double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds against Mississippi State (Jan. 30). The nine boards were a career-high.
  • Wright, averaging 4.7 rebounds per game this season, has more than doubled his rebounds-per-game average from his freshman campaign (2.3). The Tiger has 98 rebounds through 21 games after securing 69 in 30 games last season.

Steal Our Hearts, Terrence

  • There is a lot to love about freshman guard Terrence Phillips' aggressive style of play, especially on the defensive end. His 29 steals over Mizzou's 21 games leads the squad, with no other Tiger yet to reach the 20-steal mark.
  • Phillips' 1.63 steals per game in Southeastern Conference action ranks tied for first in the league with Mississippi State's Quinndary Weatherspoon and Kentucky's Jamal Murray. In overall games, Phillips' 1.38 steals-per-game average ranks second in the conference.

Freshmen Focus at the Free Throw Line

  • Three Mizzou freshmen currently hold strong marks at the free throw line in conference action. Forward Kevin Puryear, guard K.J. Walton and guard Terrence Phillips are shooting 87.1 percent (27-of-31), 85.7 percent (12-of-14) and 81.0 percent (17-of-21), respectively.
  • Mizzou is the only school in the conference with multiple freshmen shooting 80.0 percent or better from the free throw line in conference action.

  • Senior guard Stefan Moody has averaged an impressive 23.6 points per game over the entire season and has improved upon that mark in SEC action with 25.1 points per game. Moody has 17 20-point games thus far in the 2015-16 season.
  • Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy, in his 10th season leading the program, has coached the Rebels to NCAA Tournament berths in two of the last three seasons. Ole Miss failed to reach the NCAA Tournament in Kennedy's first six seasons at the helm.
