GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mizzou Women's Golf moved up two spots to second place out of 17 teams during the second round of the Lady Paladin Invitational on Monday. The Tigers (+5) shot an even-par 288 as a team and trail Wake Forest (+4) by one stroke heading into Tuesday's final round.
"We are really proud of the team effort heading into the final round," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "We look forward to the challenge tomorrow but are keeping it very simple in our minds. We will focus on what's important now with the shot we have in front of us."
True freshman Emma Allen (Southampton, England) led Mizzou by shooting a 2-under par 70 while junior Jessica Meek (Carnoustie, Scotland) added a 1-under 71, including a 3-under back nine. Senior Michelle Butler (Dunedin, Fla.) continued her strong season with an even-par 72 and remains in second place individually at 2-under par through 36 holes. Meek is tied for third at 1-under. Allen is tied for ninth (+1) overall. Sophomore Clara Young (North Berwick, Scotland) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with a 75 (+3) while senior Haelena Schwemmer (O'Fallon, Mo.) shot an 80 (+8).
"Michelle had another very balanced round," Priesmeyer said. "She knocked in a 35-footer for birdie on 18 that lit us up. Jess had a great back nine. She had a lot of opportunities today and really stayed patient, and the birdies came late in the day for her and that was fun to see. Emma was solid from start to finish, and she is a very composed golfer in competition. She has a great demeanor. Clara bounced back from her round yesterday and Haelena stepped up for us in yesterday's round."
The final round begins at 8 a.m. CT on Tuesday morning. For live scoring, go to https://www.birdiefire.com/tournament/14862/.
