Two teams concluded scrimmage with exciting back and forth third set
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Gold Team claimed a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-23) win over the Black Team in the annual Mizzou Volleyball Black & Gold Scrimmage. 642 Tiger fans were on hand Thursday night at the Hearnes Center for the public's first look at this year's Tiger squad.
"It was a great atmosphere tonight, and it served as an outstanding experience for each of the ladies," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "It was really big to get our newcomers out there and show what they're capable of. I was pleased with our energy and competitive nature all night long. We'll continue to get better in practice as we prepare for the Tiger Invitational next weekend at the Hearnes Center."
Two-time AVCA All-American Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the way for Team Gold, as she finished with the squad's most kills and points. Junior Julia Towler (Blue Springs, Mo.) also performed well for the gold squad, finishing with double-digit kills.
For Team Black, sophomore Kasey Reuter (Sioux City, Iowa) turned in a strong showing, and was accompanied by a powerful debut from redshirt sophomore Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.).
A pair of freshmen contributed for their respective teams as well, with Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) producing powerful attacks and Riley Sents (Grundy Center, Iowa) playing a big role in the back row.
Mizzou Volleyball begins 2015 regular season play next weekend at the Hearnes Center with the Tiger Invitational.
