BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Six members of the Mizzou swimming and diving teams earned All-Southeastern Conference honors, the league announced on Tuesday (April 14). Senior Sam Tierney (Plano, Texas), junior Clark Thomas (Olathe, Kan.) and sophomore Carter Griffin (Parker, Colo.), were named to the All-SEC second team, while freshmen Sharli Brady (Burlington, Ky.), Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio) and Hunter Fritter (Houston, Texas) earned spots on the All-Freshman teams.
Tierney, Thomas and Griffin claimed second team honors after runner-up performances at the 2015 SEC Championships in February, while Brady, Fritter and Stevens earned All-Freshman team accolades as top-eight finishers at the Championships.
Tierney took second in the 100 breast in a then-personal best time of 51.64 at SECs, while also placing fourth in the 200 breast and 24th in the 50 free. Last month Tierney concluded his time in black and gold as the most decorated swimmer in program history, with six first team and seven honorable mention All-America honors. At the 2015 NCAA Championships, he placed fourth in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 breast. His fourth-place finish ties the best NCAA finish ever by a Mizzou male swimming, matching Kevin DeForrest's 50 free finish in 1979.
In the diving well, Thomas earned runner-up honors on the 3-meter springboard with a personal best finals total of 436.30 points. He also placed fifth on 1-meter and 12th on platform at the meet. The 2013 SEC Male Freshman Diver of the Year, Thomas was a member of the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2013 as well.
Griffin earned the first SEC honor of his career after taking second at the Championships in the 200 back in a school record 1:40.17. Griffin, who holds Mizzou's 200 back mark by two and a half seconds, also finished 10th at SECs in the 100 back. At the NCAA Championships, he earned two honorable mention All-America honors after placing 11th in the 200 back and 10th as part of Missouri's 400 medley relay team.
Stevens was Mizzou's highest freshman finisher at SECs after taking fifth in the 100 back at the meet, while also placing 12th in the 200 back. She claimed two first team and one honorable mention All-America honor at the NCAA Championships, taking 14th in the 100 back while also swimming on the team's fourth-place 400 medley relay team and seventh-place 200 medley relay team.
Brady earned three top-17 finishes at SECs, highlighted by an eighth-place showing in the 400 IM to garner All-Freshman Team honors. Additionally, she won the 200 fly consolation final to finish ninth and won the 200 IM C final to take 17th. One month later, she became the first Tiger freshman swimmer to earn multiple individual All-America honors after taking 13th in the 400 IM and 13th in the 200 fly in school record times of 4:08.01 and 1:55.05, respectively.
Fritter claimed his All-Freshman Team accolades after placing eighth on platform at the SEC Championships. He scored a then-personal best 352.40 in prelims before tallying 341.65 points in finals on the event. Fritter later bested his career best with 359.70 points on platform prelims at NCAA Zones.
