GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mizzou placed a program relay record fourth in the 400 medley relay to kickoff day one at the 2015 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in style on Thursday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. The Tigers finished the first of three days in 14th-place with 30 points.
After advancing to the championship final with a school record 3:31.20 in prelims, Mizzou's 400 medley relay team of freshman Hannah Stevens, redshirt junior Abby Duncan senior Danielle Barbiea and junior Anna Patterson earned their fourth-place finish with a new school mark of 3:30.70 in finals. The Tigers dropped almost two seconds off their previous 400 medley relay school record, as it stood at 3:32.60 entering NCAAs.
Fourth also marks Missouri's highest relay finish in history, besting the 200 free relay's seventh-place finish in 2012. With the top-eight placement, the Tiger quartet earned All-America first team honors.
The Tigers started off the meet in the 200 free relay, where the foursome of Barbiea, freshman Rachel Hayden, Stevens and Patterson swam 1:28.94 to place 17th and miss finals by just one spot. The time was good enough to rank second all-time at Mizzou in the event, only behind the 1:28.14 set in 2012.
Missouri had two competitors in the 200 IM. Freshman Sharli Brady touched the wall in a personal best 1:57.66 to finish 25th overall. Sophomore Katharine Ross also competed in the event, placing 44th in a time of 1:59.20.
In the 50 free, Barbiea earned a 41st-place finish after a time of 22.63.
Day two action at the 2015 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships continues on Friday with preliminary action at 10 a.m. CT.
