FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mizzou tennis kicked off their Southeastern Conference season today at the Billingsley Tennis Center, and dropped a 6-1 contest to No. 50 Arkansas. The Tigers fought back early to win two-of-three and the doubles point, but later fell in singles play against the Razorbacks.
Sunday afternoon got off to an exciting start for Mizzou, as the duos of freshman Brianna Lashway and sophomore Cassidy Spearman and sophomores Beatriz Machado Santos and Brittany Lashway tallied wins to claim the Tigers doubles point.
Brittany Lashway and Santos' win at No. 3 doubles improved their spring record to 5-0. The Tiger duo's five wins is the most among Mizzou doubles tandems.
After dropping the doubles team point, the host Razorbacks had the final say as they swept Mizzou in all six singles matchups. Brittany Lashway and freshman Clare Raley fought hard in their respective battles, forcing a decisive third set at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Next time out, the Tigers (8-5) continue SEC play at No. 63 Mississippi State on Friday, March 6. First serve between Mizzou and the Bulldogs is set for 3 p.m. (CT).
