Jordan Frericks establishes season-highs with 18 points, three blocks and three steals
MORAGA, Calif. – Led by 18 points and nine rebounds from junior forward Jordan Frericks (Quincy, Ill.), Mizzou Women's Basketball (6-0) earned a 69-56 victory over Northeastern (3-1) on Friday in the Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic at McKeon Pavilion on the campus of Saint Mary's. Redshirt junior guard Lindsey Cunningham (Columbia, Mo.) scored a career-high 16 points and freshman forward Cierra Porter (Columbia, Mo.) established career-highs with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Mizzou shot 48 percent (25-for-52) from the floor and 73 percent (16-for-22) from the free throw line. In the second half, the Tigers shot 81 percent (13-for-16) from the foul line.
The Tigers outscored the Huskies 36-24 in the paint, 16-11 in second-chance opportunities and 15-9 off of turnovers. In the second quarter, Mizzou outscored Northeastern 22-12, which included an 11-0 run.
Frericks set new season-highs with 18 points, three blocks and three steals. She was 8-for-13 from the field. Five of her nine boards were of the offensive variety. Lindsey Cunningham was 6-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-2 from 3-point range. Cierra Porter was 5-for-7 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free throw line.
Sophie Cunningham (Columbia, Mo.) was held scoreless for the first time during her collegiate career, but finished with a career-high seven assists.
Samantha DeFreese led Northeastern with 16 points and six rebounds. Jess Genco and Gabriella Giacone finished with 13 points.
Mizzou concludes the tournament with a 4 p.m. CT tipoff vs. host Saint Mary's on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers will return to Mizzou Arena on Dec. 2 for a matchup vs. Southeast Missouri at 7 p.m. CT.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Mizzou is now 1-0 all-time vs. Northeastern.
- The Tigers are 3-1 all-time against teams from the Colonial Athletic Association.
- It was the first matchup between Mizzou and a Colonial team since a 57-56 victory over Towson on Nov. 25, 2005 at the Pitt Thanksgiving Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- Jordan Frericks established season-highs with 18 points, three blocks and three steals.
- Lindsey Cunningham set a new career-high with 16 points, topping her previous career-best of 12 vs. Milwaukee on Nov. 30, 2014. She is now 5-for-10 (50 percent) from beyond the arc this season.
- Cierra Porter established career-highs with 16 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. She was 6-for-8 from the free throw line and is now 25-for-31 (81 percent) over her first six career games.
- Sophie Cunningham set a new career-high with seven assists.
- Sierra Michaelis recorded a season-high three steals.
