LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Tigers closed out their 2015 cross country campaign on Friday (November 13) at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Kansas at the historic Rim Rock Farm. Led by an All-Midwest Regional finish from sophomore Karissa Schweizer, the women placed 12th in the team field, with the men coming in at 11th overall.

"We are really proud of the effort both teams put forth out there today. We just have to get better over the next year so that we can come back to regionals next year ready to battle for a qualifying spot," Head Coach Marc Burns said. "Karissa did a great job leading the women today and Teylar had the race of her career. Both teams got out in good position and battled throughout the race. Dan Roe stepped up today for us and Jordan and Sheldon really fought hard. We have made a lot of individual progress this fall but we expect our teams to be battling for the top five every year here at the regional meet. We will be back and ready to make that happen in 2016."
The women's 6k was the first race to take the line in Lawrence with their noon start. The women had a good start, with Schweizer immediately taking position off the shoulders of the leaders.
The pack stayed tight throughout the first part of the race, spreading out a bit more along the course after the two mile mark. Schweizer closed in 25th overall for her second consecutive All-Midwest honor with a final time of 20:59.10. Not far behind her was junior Teylar Adelsberger in 30th, who clocked her fastest 6k time ever on the cross country course with a final crossing of 21:10.30.
Fellow-junior Nicole Mello was next through in 88th overall (22:00.10), followed by freshman Kelli Jackon in 90th (22:02.20) and sophomore Jamie Kempfer rounded out the top five scorers in 145th overall (22:42.50).
