BOERNE, Texas – Mizzou Women's Golf opened up the Jim West Challenge by shooting a collective 302 (+14) on Sunday at the Tapatio Springs Resort. The Tigers are currently in 10th place out of 13 teams. Junior Jessica Meek (Carnoustie, Scotland) is tied for 13th individually after shooting an even par 72 in the opening round.
"We didn't have the start we would have liked today, but the good thing is we have two days to rebound and fight back up the leaderboard," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "The team knows they had a lot of opportunities today and we didn't connect on those when we had the chance. I'm confident we will fire back tomorrow."
Meek finished with three birdies on the afternoon, including two on the back nine.
"Jess was very consistent today and had lots of birdie chances, but some of them just didn't fall," Priesmeyer said."
Sophomore Clara Young (North Berwick, Scotland) carded a 76 (+4) with three birdies. Senior Michelle Butler (Dunedin, Fla.) shot a 77 (+5) with two birdies. Fellow senior Haelena Schwemmer (O'Fallon, Mo.) also finished with a 77 (+5) while freshman Emma Allen (Southampton, England) shot an 80 (+8).
The 3-day tournament resumes with a 10 a.m. CT shotgun start on Monday.
