COLUMBIA, Mo. - #MizzouMade pitcher and current ace of Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals Max Scherzer threw his second no-hitter of 2015 on Saturday night in a 2-0 win over the New York Mets. Scherzer is the first major league pitcher with two no-hitters in the same regular season since Nolan Ryan did so in 1973 and he is the first major league pitcher ever to throw two no-hitters in the same regular season without issuing a walk.

Scherzer, who tossed a no-hitter back on June 20 against the Pirates, was sensational on Saturday against the Mets. His game score was 104, just one point shy of Kerry Wood's major league record (105). He struck out a career-high 17 batters in the no-hitter, including nine in a row before inducing a Curtis Granderson pop-up for the final out. He was just a Yunel Escobar throwing error in the sixth inning away from spinning a perfect game and in each of his no-hitters, he faced just one batter over the minimum (28 in each). He also took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning just five days ago against the Reds.

In what was likely his final start of the 2015 MLB season, Scherzer lowered his ERA to 2.79 with 14 wins and 276 strikeouts in 228.2 innings. His 0.92 WHIP is fourth in the National League. He is second in the NL in strikeouts, third in innings pitched and eighth in ERA.
