COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving teams secured dual wins over Drury on Friday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The Tiger men's team improved to 6-1 and the women's squad pushed to 9-2 overall in dual action this season.
The Mizzou women's team won eight of nine individual events en route to its victory. A blend of experience and youth propelled the Tigers as both senior Dani Barbiea and freshman Rachel Hayden won two events each. Barbiea claimed the 50 free in 23.63 and pulled away from the pack in the 100 fly, clocking a 54.38. Hayden swam a 151.05 to win the 200 free and out-touch teammate Erin Metzger-Seymour and added a victory in the 100 free with a 49.46 to round out her day.
Hayden's fellow freshmen Kira Zubar and Hannah Stevens also picked up an event win apiece. Zubar started the meet off on a high note by outlasting the field with a 10:17.23 in the 1000 free. Stevens collected her win in the 100 back (55.80), which was the only backstroke event of the afternoon.
Junior Abby Duncan and sophomore Katharine Ross put the cherry on top with event titles in the 100 breast and 200 IM, respectively.
On the men's side, Eegan Groome led the way by dominating the pair of distance events. Groome bookended the meet with wins in both the 1000 free (9:29.60) and 500 free (4:33.28). Matthew Margritier (50 free), Igor Koslovskij (200 IM), Michael Chadwick (100 free) and Sam Tierney (100 breast) all secured event titles to help the Tigers increase their lead as the meet went on. The men polished off a strong day by claiming the 200 free relay in 1:21.33.
In the diving well, junior Clark Thomas grabbed two more event wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions and Lauren Reedy continued her stellar season, racking up 355.80 points to win the 1-meter platform.
Both squads are back in action Thursday, Jan. 29 as they face SEC foe Auburn at 12 p.m. For all the latest on Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on twitter @MizzouSwimDive.
