Columbia, Mo. - The Tigers earned their first SEC win on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a 66-47 victory over Florida. Senior Morgan Eye knocked down four triples and finished the night with a game-high 18 points to help overcome a halftime deficit and put the Tigers on top. Mizzou improves to 11-6 on the season and 1-3 in SEC play.
In the annual Black Out game, Mizzou's strong first-half effort helped the Tigers to come back from a 10-point deficit. Mizzou went on an 8-0 run, capped off with a jumper and two foul shots from Morgan Eye to put the Tigers ahead of Florida. Eye's jumper put the Tigers ahead by just one, (20-19) about nine minutes before the halftime break. Thanks to Mizzou's strong defensive efforts, Mizzou held the Gators off for almost five minutes, holding on to the lead and extending it with Eye's two foul shots. The Gators took the lead with just under a minute left in the half to bring a 24-22 lead into the locker room.
As previously mentioned, Mizzou was strong defensively, outrebounding the Gators 24-21 in the first half and grabbing 19 defensive boards. Mizzou allowed the Gators just two second chance points before the halftime buzzer. Redshirt sophomore Lindsey Cunningham played a big part in the Tigers' rebounding efforts as she finished with a career-high 11 boards on the day.
The Gators came out of the break with a quick layup, but Mizzou was back with a vengeance. The Tigers used an 8-0 run to take their final lead of the game with just under 12 minutes left in the half. Both Maddie Stock and Eye hit three-pointers, and Eye followed those up with a jumper for an eight-point Tiger lead. The Tigers never looked back, pulling ahead of the Gators by 20 for their largest lead of the game.
Mizzou knocked down seven three-pointers in the second half, shooting 50-percent from distance. The Tigers were 14-of-28 from the floor in the second half, finishing with 40.7-percent shooting on the night. Mizzou held Florida to just under 19-percent shooting from the floor, limiting the Gators to just six second-half field goals. Florida finished the night, making just two of its last 18 shots.
Mizzou will host No. 1 South Carolina in an 8 p.m. contest on Thursday. The game will mark the annual Gold Rush, where fans are encouraged to wear gold in support of the Tigers. Those who wear black will receive $2 admission to Thursday's game.
