@MizzouVB Continues Tournament Stretch At Appalachian State Invitational

After its second consecutive perfect weekend and tournament championship, Mizzou Volleyball hits the road to Boone, North Carolina, this weekend for the Appalachian State Invitational.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – After its second consecutive perfect weekend and tournament championship, Mizzou Volleyball hits the road to Boone, North Carolina, this weekend for the Appalachian State Invitational. The Tigers will be joined by Appalachian State, Charlotte and Liberty for the 2-day invite.

Mizzou begins action on Friday with a 6 p.m. (CT) first serve against Appalachian State. Saturday brings two contests to close out the invite for the Tigers, as they face Charlotte at 9 a.m. (CT) and Liberty at 3 p.m. (CT).

QUICK DIGS

  • The Tigers (6-0) are one of three remaining undefeated teams in the SEC. They are joined by Tennessee (9-0) and No. 2 Florida (4-0) atop the conference standings heading into this week's action. Nationally, Mizzou is only one of 18 teams with an unblemished record.
  • After opening its season with a tournament title at the Tiger Invitational, Mizzou again took top honors this past weekend at the South Florida Invitational. The Tigers enter this weekend with a perfect 6-0 record and have won 18 of 23 sets.
  • Mizzou remains high atop SEC team rankings, including second in hitting percentage (.328), second in blocks per set (2.78) and third in service aces per set (1.52).
  • The Tigers' outstanding .328 hitting percentage also ranks highly nationally, as its currently fourth best in the country behind No. 8 Washington (.396), No. 22 Kansas (.334) and No. 2 Florida (.330).
  • At the South Florida Invitational, the Tigers were led by junior Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii). En route to her tournament MVP honor, Kan posted 20-plus kills and a double-double in each of Mizzou's final two contests.
  • For the weekend, Kan recorded 46 kills on .303 hitting, 36 digs, eight service aces, nine total blocks and two double-doubles. It was her second consecutive tournament MVP honor, as she also earned the recognition at the Tiger Invitational.
  • After averaging 5.00 points per set in Tampa, Kan surpassed 1,000 points in her Mizzou career. She reached the benchmark in just 75 career matches, joining former three-time Mizzou Volleyball All-American Lisa Henning as the quickest Tiger to reach 1,000 career points.
  • Redshirt sophomore Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.) and senior Regan Peltier (Nixa, Mo.) were also named to last weekend's South Florida Invitational All-Tournament Team. Larson produced 29 kills on .328 hitting and 11 total blocks, while Peltier had 26 kills and 28 digs over the tournament. Peltier's top performance was against Arkansas State, as she tallied her second career double-double (11 kills and career-high 17 digs). Her 17 digs were the most by a Tiger outside hitter in a 4-set match since Kan had 19 at Miami on Sept. 20, 2014 (span of 26 matches).

UP NEXT

Following this weekend's Appalachian State Invitational, the Tigers close out their early season tournament schedule next weekend in Indianapolis for the Butler Invitational. Mizzou begins the invite against Southern Illinois on Friday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. (CT).

Later that day, the Tigers take on Butler at 5 p.m. (CT) inside Hinkle Fieldhouse. Mizzou's tournament finale is against Youngstown State on Saturday, Sept. 19, with a 1 p.m. (CT) first serve.
