AUGUSTA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Golf sophomore Jim Siegfried turned in a brilliant performance on the final day of action at the 25th Metropolitan Amateur Golf Championship held at Boone Valley Country Club over the weekend (July 30-Aug. 1), carding six birdies in his final round and forcing a playoff to claim the title.
Siegfried, the former top-ranked Missouri player in the Class of 2014 out of DeSmet High School, overcame a tough final round for the entire Metro field, as the Tiger was the only player to come in under par. A 19-year old, Siegfried's stellar play down the stretch forced a 4-hole aggregate playoff with 42-year old Skip Berkmeyer, a prolific golfer of the St. Louis area. The elder golfer previously claimed top honors at the 2009 Metro.
The two final golfers on Boone Valley would go through holes 15-18 even, sending them back to hole 18 for an additional sudden-death playoff hole. Siegfried sunk yet another birdie chance to secure himself the championship.
Siegfried redshirted his initial season at Mizzou during the 2014-15 campaign.
