CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Mizzou women's golfer Clara Young earned All-American Scholar recognition by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), it was announced Tuesday.
"We are proud of Clara and her academic accomplishments at Mizzou her freshman year," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "It is not easy being so far away from home and balancing school and golf. Clara was solid for us on and off the golf course."
Young, who hails from North Berwick, Scotland, recorded a 3.77 grade point average during the 2014-15 academic year while majoring in Business. She participated in 10 tournaments, recording a stroke average of 76.5. Her best finish was at the Seminole Classic hosted by Florida State from Feb. 13-15, when she tied for fifth by posting a 217 (+1) total score, including a career-best 70 (-2) in the final round.
In order to be selected an All-American Scholar by the WGCA, golfers must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and participate in at least 50 percent of respective team tournaments. A total of 758 women's collegiate golfers at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels received the prestigious honor.
As a team, Mizzou recorded a 3.55 grade point average during the spring semester, which was the highest term GPA for the program in eight years. For the year, the Tigers recorded a 3.51 team GPA. The squad carries a cumulative GPA of 3.4, which is the highest total for the program since 2012.
