COLUMBIA, Mo. - Two new All-Time Top Ten marks and 17 personal record (PR) performances highlighted Friday's Tiger Invitational, hosted by Mizzou at the Hearnes Center. The teams went up against UMKC, SIUE, Missouri State, Lincoln, and Memphis for the inaugural running of the meet, the second of three meets hosted by Mizzou during the indoor season. This begins the wind-down of the regular season, as the team approaches their final two meets before the SEC Championships in Lexington, Ky., later this month.
Junior Alyssa Felton made her mark on her second All-Time Top Ten list, coming through in the fifth-fastest time in Missouri history in the 60m dash (7.71). She already sits at No. 5 in the 60m hurdles record books after clocking 8.63 last weekend at the Armory Track Invitational in New York City. Joining her with an All-Time Top Ten performance was freshman Jerrad Mason, who crossed with the ninth-fastest time in school history for the 60m dash (6.99). He also already owns a spot in the Mizzou record books, after hitting the No. 10 time in the 400m dash at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet two weeks ago (48.26).
Other highlights include a pair of PR efforts in the weight throw, starting with senior Camille Hackamack who placed second in the field with a top mark of 16.79m (55-1). Following her into the ring was the men's weight throw, where sophomore Ahren Bohanan led the field for the first time in his career with a PR toss of 18.63m (61-1.50).
Seniors Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin, coming off exciting performances last week at the Armory Track Invitational, led the shot put field with first and second-place finishes, respectively. Peoples took the lead the NCAA in the women's weight throw with her PR and new school record (22.15m / 72-8). Rushin also PR'd in New York, and now sits at No. 4 in the NCAA for the shot put (17.07m / 56-0).
The mid-distance and distance squads also came away with a few career-best performances, starting with the women's 800m run where freshman Valeska Halamicek improved upon her 2:17.88 from the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet, placing third on Friday with a final time of 2:15.87. In the mile, senior Courtney Wood came away with the win while sophomore Jordan Cook placed second with a new PR of 4:16.21.
Other event wins for the Tigers included: Parker Brush in the pole vault, and Kwadarrius Smith in the 200m dash.
The teams will be back in action next week, traveling to their final big meet of the regular season with the February 14th Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. For the latest on your Tigers, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
